Alarming images of poisoned birds show the devastating effects of Australia s ongoing mouse plague, the fight against which is now proving to be a threat to the country s native species.
According to News.com.au, Kelly Lacey, who works as a bird coordinator for the New South Wales Wildlife Information, Rescue and Education Service (WIRES), has been looking after populations of birds she suspected were poisoned from eating mouse bait.
On Monday, she reportedly went to check on a flock of approximately 100 galahs in a Parkes, New South Wales cemetery but what she discovered was a horrifying scene, in which all but two birds were found dead. ....

Popular flea collar linked to thousands of pet deaths, reveals new report

The collar has also been tied to tens of thousands of injured animals, as well as hundreds of harmed humans. It was named in approximately 75,000 incident reports with the 
Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
Reports about the Seresto collars started coming in in 2012 just after the collars were first approved for sale. In most of the incidents, pets had allergic reactions in the spot where the collar touched their fur or skin. Some animals had seizures. In severe cases, owners lost their pets just weeks after fitting them with the collar.
Meanwhile, in the over 900 incidents that involved humans, rashes were the most commonly reported effect of exposure to the collar. In one particularly severe case, a 12-year-old boy was hospitalized with seizures and vomiting after sleeping beside his dog. The dog had been wearing a Seresto collar. ....

On June 13, Swiss citizens will vote on an initiative that seeks to ban the use of pesticides in the country. The backers of the initiative want to make illegal the use of synthetic weedkillers, insecticides, and fungicides in Switzerland’s agriculture sector as well as for private or commercial use.
