Tuesday marked the start of two weeks dedicated to a flurry of floor action in the state Legislature as the March 9 deadline looms to pass most bills out of their house of origin.
Democratic leaders in the House and Senate expect to act on big agenda items such as police reform and racial equity starting this week. There are also at least half a dozen or so tax proposals on the table, including the proposal for a statewide soda tax, similar to Seattle’s, to fund the health equity and public health account. ....

Spokane senator says Gov. Inslee will announce changes to allow 'additional opening' on Thursday

The surprise announcement came during a virtual Town Hall, which was open to the public. 
One viewer asked how long it would be before Washington could move forward under Governor Inslee’s reopening plan. Specifically, he wanted to know if the metrics were achievable. To that, Billig responded,“There is going to be an announcement tomorrow [Thursday] by the governor, um to, adjust the metics. There will be some, um, additional flexibility.” 
Washington may be relaxing some of its reopening metrics tomorrow.

OLYMPIA A proposed bill in the Legislature would change reopening metrics for schools, allowing kids to get back to in-person learning sooner than the current plan allows.
It is one of many Republicans plan to introduce this legislative session to reopen the state sooner. Last week, Republicans opposed new rules for the Legislature that allowed for a remote session. They also opposed extending COVID-19 emergency orders until the end of Inslee’s state of emergency, arguing that the proclamations should only be extended every few weeks. ....
