HELP. BEN: THIS IS A WEAK SPOT IN HOMEOWNERS' INSURANCE, MOST PELEOP WOULD BE SURPRISED TO KNOW THEY'RE LIKELY NOT COVERED FOR A SEWER OVERFLOW, OR HAVE VERY LITTLE VECORAGE. BUT IN THIS CASE, THE PROBLEM MECA FROM THE TOWN'S SEWER MAIN AND WE FOUND SOME WARNING SIGNS MAY VEHA BEEN IGNORED WHICH RAISES QUESTIONS ABOUT WHO FOOTS THE BI. >> ALL RAW SEWAGE INUR O HOUSE. I WAS POWERLESS. THERE WAS NOTHING WE COULD DO. REPORTER: WHEN WORKERS FROM THE TOWN OF BELMONT ARRIVED, THEY WENT TO WORK IN THE SEWER MAIN UP THE STREET. >> THEY WERE LIKE THERE WAS A BLACKAGEP U HERE -- BLOCKAGE OF THE MAIN. REPORER: BUT THE DAMAGE WAS DONE. HER FINISHED BASEMENT DESTROYED. EVERYTHING IN IT RUINED. KIM SAYS SORTING THRGHOU THE FAMILY KEEPSAKES STUNK. >> IT WAS ONE OF MY SON'S TOYS THAT HE PLAYED WITH SO OFTEN AS A KID. I BROKE DOWN I TEARS. IT WAS JUST -- WE CAN'T SEAV THIS STUFF. BEN: 'S KIM'S HOMEOWNER INSURANCE WILL COULD COVER IT. THE BLOCKAGE WAS NO FAULT OF HERSND A HAPPENED AT THE NEXT CORNER. TOWN'S INSURAN,CE A COOP CAEDLL MIIA, DENI HEDER CLAIM. SAYING THE TOWN WAS NOT LIABLE FOR THEAM DAGES BECAUSE IT WAS NOT NEGLIGENT. >> I THINK IT'S IMMORAL. IT'S UNETHICAL. I WOULD THINK TTHA THE TOWN WOULD TAKE CARE OF ITS PEOPLE WHEN THEY DO SOMETHINGT THA CAUSES SUCH DAMAGE. >> CITIES AND TOWNS ARE OF THE BELIEF IF WE DENY LIABILITY FOR THE CLAIMS, THE CLAIMANT WILL GO AW.AY REPORTER: THE ATTORNEY HAS REPRESENTED HOMEOWNERS AFTER SEWER BACKUPS. SAYS MANY TOWNS DENIED CLAIMS BECAUSE THEY KNOW IT'S TOO EXPENSIVE FOR MOST PEOPLE TO SUE AND SO IN MTOS CASES, HOMEOWNERS JUST WALK AWAY BEFORE ASKING THE RIGHT QUESTIONS. >> MUNICIPALITIES ON THE HOOK TO COVER THE COST IF THEYRE A FOUND TO BE NEGLIGENT. ATTH MEANS THEY HAVE AN OBLIGATION TO REGULARLY MAIAINNT THE PIPES. BEN: KIM LEARNED HER NEXT DOOR NEIGHBOR HAD SEWEAG BACKUP IN HIS BASEMENT TWICE. JUST SIX WEEKS BEFORE HER MESS. >> I NOTED FECES. IT WAS SIGNIFICANT. >> I DON'T KNOW HOW IT IS TWO HOUSES NEXT TONE O ANOERTH CAN HAVE RAW SEWAGE BACK UP IN TIR BASEMENTS. BEN: WHEN KIM BROUGHT TTHA UP, SUDDENLY IT OFFERED TO PAY FOR THE CLEAN UP BUT NOT REPAIRS.IN SISTED BELMONT WAS NOT AT ULFAT. THAT'S JUST A DROP IN THE BUCKET SO SHE CALLED US. WE FOUND BELMONT ALSO DID NOT FILE AN OVERFLOW REPORT WITH THE STATEHI WCH IS SUPPOSED TO HAPPEN WHEN A BACKUP ON PRIVATE PROPERTY IS CAUSED BY A CONDITION OF THE SYSTEM. >> MANY MUNICIPALITIES BELVEIE THAT IF THEY FILED THAT REPORT WITH DEP, THAT RENDERS THEM AUTOMATICALLY RESPONSIBLE LEGALLY FOR THE LOSS. BE N:FEW DAYS AFTER WE ASKED QUESTIONS THE TOWN'S INSURANCE SUDDENLY DUMPED ITS OPPOSITION AND ACCEPTED FLUL LIABILITY. KIM YSSA HER STRUGGLE SHOULD BE A WARNING FOR OTHS.ER >> IF THIS COULD HAPPEN TO US, IT CAN HAPPEN T ANYBODY. BEN: THE TNOW OF BILL NOT NEVER RESPONDED OTOUR INQUIRY. May 12, 2021BELMONT — For the second week in a row, the Belmont track team hosted a Saturday meet that lasted less than two hours, as the Raiders hosted Gilford and Bishop Brady.
Mitchell Berry picked up the win in the 110-meter hurdles for the Belmont boys with a time of 18.99 seconds. Berry also won the 300-meter hurdles in 50.64 seconds and Colby Vetter finished in second in 54.03 seconds.
Micah Edgren won the 400 meters with a time of 54.4 seconds.

SNHU professor Dr. Kiki Berk will be leading a discussion on Massimo Pigliucci's "How to be a Stoic: Using ancient philosophy to live a modern life." Get in touch with the library for the link to the meeting on May 13 at 1 p.m.
We here at the Belmont Library are trying something a little different for storytime right now. There's a month long themed display- coming up, National Physical Fitness Month—take one or two books and a craft/STEM kit. Wednesday mornings we'll post a short video (roughly five minutes) on the library's Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.
