CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas â Game rooms have caused some areas issues for years in the Coastal Bend. A recent fatal shooting at a game room near Weber Road and Gollihar Road raises questions again about the legality of game rooms operated in Texas.
We spoke with some officials from San Patricio County about the subject.
âGame rooms themselves are not illegal, but if youâre gambling there it s against the law and we will investigate it, San Patricio County District Attorney Samuel Smith said. And if we find out that youâre gambling, weâre going to shut you down.â ....

Counties in South Texas with positive coronavirus cases

Nueces County reported 91 new COVID-19 cases and one related death on April 1.
There have been 39,770 coronavirus cases reported in Nueces County, with 1,091 active cases.
One of the new cases was reported by the state. The state has reported 5,452 of the county s cases.
Of the new cases, 24 were confirmed, 35 were probable and 32 were suspected positives. There have been 26,443 confirmed, 10,716 probable and 2,611.
There have been 749 COVID-19 related deaths in Nueces County since March 2020.
There were 42 patients in the hospital, with 17 in the ICU. There have been 6,685 hospitalizations total and 37,930 recoveries.
Total: 39,770 total cases, 1,091 active cases, 749 deaths
Aransas County
There have been 919 confirmed cases, 283 probable cases, 38 active cases and 37 deaths total in Aransas County as of April 1. ....

Two more people in Nueces County were infected with the more contagious and lethal COVID-19 variant that originated in the United Kingdom, bringing the county’s total to three.
The Texas Department of State Health Services notified the Corpus Christi-Nueces County Public Health District of the two additional cases on Thursday, a news release said. The first case of the B.1.1.7 variant in the county was reported in January, and the person recovered that month.
Public health director Annette Rodriguez said the other two people tested positive at the end of February and the beginning of March, and contact tracing showed their cases were the result of community spread. ....
