Shin Hyun-soo, the senior presidential civil affairs secretary who offered to resign after being appointed to the post less than two months ago, has taken two vacation days starting Thursday to take time to reconsider his resignation.
As Shin remains adamant about resigning despite President Moon Jae-in’s repeated efforts to dissuade him, there are growing concerns about the possibility of another conflict between Cheong Wa Dae and the prosecutor’s office in the second half of Moon’s presidency. Shin has been showing difference with new Justice Minister Park Beom-kye over the latest reshuffle of senior prosecutors. ....

The prosecution of a Queensland journalist for refusing to reveal a confidential source highlights the urgent need for the Palaszczuk government to follow through on an election promise to introduce a journalist “shield” law.
The Media, Entertainment & Arts Alliance (MEAA), the union for Australia’s journalists, says the public’s right to know depends on whistleblowers and other sources having confidence that their identity will be kept anonymous when they deal with a journalist on a sensitive story.
While the Queensland Government promised at last year’s election to introduce a shield law, until it does so other journalists also face prosecution if they maintain their ethical obligations not to reveal the identity of a confidential source. ....

Security boss fined for ignoring industry regulator
Kevan Warren, of Liverpool, was sentenced at Liverpool and Knowsley Magistrates’ Court on 11 February 2021. District Judge Shaw imposed a fine of £230.00 plus a victim surcharge of £32.00. Warren, who is the director of SecureSec Security Solutions Ltd, must also pay costs of £500.00.
Warren, who is also known as both Kevin and Keven Warren, changed his plea from not guilty to guilty at the hearing, at which he represented himself. The Security Industry Authority brought the prosecution after Warren stopped engaging with requests for information under Section 19 of the Private Security Industry Act 2001. Requests made under the Act place the recipient under a legal obligation to respond; not to do so is a criminal offence. ....

UAE- Officials of educational institutions, establishments should notify health authorities about infected persons: Public Prosecution

ABU DHABI, 19th February, 2021 (WAM) The Federal Public Prosecution has clarified that it was obligatory on the principal of an educational institution or the manager of an establishment to inform the health authorities if a student or worker was found infected with a communicable disease such as COVID-19.
In a video post published on its accounts on social media (uae pp@), the Public Prosecution invoked Article 12 of the Federal Law No 14 of 2014 concerning Prevention of Communicable Diseases which stipulates: If a director of an educational institution or any other facility suspects any student or employee has been infected with a communicable disease, he must refer the suspected person to the specialist doctor for examination and provide him with a report stating his/her disease. If it is proven that the person has this disease, the director must inform the Ministry of Health and Prevention or the competent health department im ....
