In a significant development in the ongoing Bengal elections, a Congress candidate contesting from Baghmundi Assembly constituency of Bengal on Saturday filed a complaint alleging that the CCTV cameras carrying the video feed of stored EVMs were switched off for over one hour.
The candidate said that despite his complaint, the same incident was repeated on Sunday as well. In response to this complaint, the Election Commission said on Monday that there was some technical glitch that led to this. Bengal’s Chief Electoral office tweeted that the screen being used to display the CCTV footage malfunctioned on the said days but the cameras were working even when the screens malfunctioned. The tweet further read that the candidates were informed about this whole matter. ....

BENGALURU: Chamarajpet police arrested two mobile robbers and a buyer and recovered 67 cellphones and five two-wheelers, all worth around Rs 11.8 lakh, from them.
The accused are Shabaz Khan, 22, of MS Palya and Mohammed Shafi, 23, of Gangondanahalli; Afzal Pasha, 26, of JJ Nagar would receive the stolen phones from the duo.
Investigation revealed Khan and Shafi snatched a mobile phone from a pedestrian near Chamarajpet 9th Cross on the night of March 27. Based on the victim s compliant, police, with help of CCTV footage, traced the duo and arrested them. The two confessed to the crime and took cops to Afzal Pasha, the receiver. Together from them, police recovered 67 phones. Khan and Shafi had also stolen five motorbikes from different parts of the city and used them to commit robberies. ....

The Supreme Court has directed the Tihar Jail authorities to explain how contraband reached prisoners, including death row convicts, and provide detailed information on CCTV coverage both inside and outside the prison walls.
The order concerns an incident on March 14, when three condemned men were found in an intoxicated condition inside their cells. The official version is that the authorities had to use force to bring them to their senses. However, one of the convicts showed the effects of brutality as he could hardly walk.
