SHANGHAI: Toyota, which pioneered hybrid cars, unveiled on Monday (Apr 19) plans for its first global line-up of battery electric vehicles as other carmakers have pulled ahead in electrification.
The Japanese automaker announced at the Shanghai motor show its future bZ line, or Beyond Zero, which should see seven models hitting showroom floors by 2025.

"We're establishing ourselves as a full line-up manufacturer," said Masahiko Maeda, Toyota Motor Corporation's chief technology officer.

We've brightened the image to show more of the Toyota EV, which looks like a tall-riding small crossover whose very Japanese styling references the Prius hybrid and Mirai hydrogen-powered saloons.
While car brands such as Volkswagen and Hyundai/Kia have gone all in electrification, Toyota and its Lexus luxury division have taken a more varied approach: EVs are (finally) on the menu alongside plug-in and self-charging hybrids, but you'll also find the rather impressive-looking Mirai too. New electric Toyota BZ badge revealed in patent drawing

Toyota has revealed a glimpse of the badge and branding its upcoming BZ all-electric SUV will wear in new trademarks filed by the brand. The Japanese company’s new BZ is a mid-sized rival for the Volkswagen ID.4 and Kia e-Niro electric SUVs and is set to be unveiled at this year’s Shanghai Motor Show.
Toyota confirmed the EV’s existence last year and, over the past 12 months, it has repeatedly told us that the BZ badge was nothing more than an internal placeholder name.
However, this trademark application is the first indication we’ve had on the production car’s nameplate.

Toyota Motor Europe (TME) announced today that its President and CEO, Dr. Johan van Zyl, who is also Chief Executive Officer, Europe Region for Toyota Motor Corporation (TMC), will retire from these posts effective April 1st, 2021. Dr. van Zyl, a South African native, has been leading TME and the Europe region for Toyota since April 2015. Previously, he had led Toyota South Africa Motors (Pty) Ltd. and had remained as Chairman of that company following his move to Brussels in 2015, a post he will conserve after April 1st.

Shepton Mallet Friday Market relocates to Great Ostry Car Park

A MENDIP market is relocating while regeneration work takes place in the town.
Traders at the Shepton Mallet Friday Market will set up their stalls at Great Ostry Car Park from March 19 for 14 weeks.
The market will still run from 9am until 2pm, but there will be no market on April 2 (Good Friday).
Resurfacing work is taking place on Shepton's Market Place thanks to the town improvement scheme, which is being jointly funded by Shepton Mallet Town Council (SMTC), Mendip District Council (MDC) and Somerset County Council (SCC).
“I am delighted that by working with the community, traders and SMTC, we have found a way to continue the Shepton Mallet Friday Market during these important works for the town", said Deputy Leader of MDC, and Portfolio Holder for Neighbourhood Services, Cllr Josh Burr.
