(Shutterstock) GILROY, CA The Gilroy City Council voted against enacting an ordinance prohibiting evictions of tenants who could not make rent due to financial difficulties caused by COVID-19, citing already-existing ordinances at the county and state levels. In a 5-2 vote on Monday, the council declined to approve a citywide ordinance. Santa Clara County s ordinance placing a temporary moratorium on evictions expires at the end of April, and the statewide moratorium runs through the end of June. The councilmembers who voted down the ordinance were sympathetic toward tenants, but worried about the unintended effect on landlords and noted that there were already two layers of protection in the county and state moratoriums. If those moratoriums run out and are not extended, the council could come back and decide to enact one on its own. ....
Pop-up vaccination clinic in Gilroy targets Latino seniors, farmworkers KTVU s Ann Rubin reports. GILROY, Calif. - A one-day pop-up vaccination clinic was held in Gilroy on Friday specifically for people 65 years years and older. The hope is to get COVID under control in the area with the highest rates of infection in Santa Clara County.
All eligible recipients had to do was show up, get a wristband, and get their vaccine dose.
