'There's nothing better than cake, but more cake': Brits gear up for annual Cake Week

Although controversial, Marie Antoinette was undoubtedly onto something when she decreed ‘Let them eat cake!’ From US president Harry S. Truman (‘There’s nothing better than cake, but more cake’) to kitchen doyen Julia Child (‘A party without cake is just a meeting’) and comedienne Jo Brand (‘Birthdays are nature’s way of telling us to eat more cake’), the decadent treat is loved the world over.

In 2019 it was hailed by the Duchess of Sussex for its “exceptional” work and “absolutely delicious” baked goods – and now the London-based Luminary Bakery has been awarded the Queen’s Award for Enterprise for excellence in promoting opportunity.
The social enterprise is one of 205 winners of the business award, given to companies for their work in international trade, innovation, sustainable development and, since 2017, promoting opportunity. Since its launch in 2017 it has raised £2 million in donations and has helped more than 250 homeless people find stable jobs and homes.

Archewell logo replaces Sussex Royal cypher Harry and Meghan letters stationery

It was recently announced that the couple will soon lose their remaining official royal ties, such as honorary titles, royal patronages and military stylings. Prince Harry and Meghan formerly used their official royal cypher on their stationery, which showed their initials – ‘H’ and ‘M’ – interwoven and topped with a crown. But a letter sent by the Duchess to a London school, which she visited to mark International Women’s Day last year, has revealed that the couple are now using their Archewell logo to adorn their stationery.
The logo features an oval divided in half, in which the letters ‘A’ and ‘W’ appear stacked on top of each other, with the word ‘Archewell’ written in capitals beneath. The symbol is visible at the head of a letter sent by Meghan to Robert Clack School in Dagenham, recently shared by the school to its official Twitter account. The image of the letter was captioned: ‘We had a very special delivery this week. It has been lovely to share this letter and advice with the students and remember our International Women’s Day celebrations last year.’
