NY's COVID-19 infection and hospitalization rates drop to levels not seen since Thanksgiving | Top Stories

NEW YORK — Coronavirus infection and hospitalization rates have dropped to nearly four-month lows in New York state, Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced Friday.
Just 2.81% of COVID-19 tests were positive, and the seven-day average stood at 3.04%, a low since the last week of November.
Just 3,884 New Yorkers were hospitalized with coronavirus, also a number not seen since the week of Thanksgiving.
“We are fully back to the point before the holiday surge,” Cuomo said, praising New Yorkers for respecting public health restrictions. “It is the actions of a community — the actions of individuals as a collective — that matter.”
Despite the good numbers, 43 New Yorkers died from the virus in the past day, including 25 residents of New York City.

In the confusion that swept through Manoir Liverpool after the Quebec retirement home was hit by COVID-19 last year, much of the personnel went missing, residents weren’t properly fed and medications no longer were properly dispensed, documents filed at a coroner’s inquest allege.
Amid the chaos created by a staff shortage and dying COVID-19 patients being sent to hospital, one social worker recalled seeing tables covered with lost objects from Manoir Liverpool’s residents: clothing, hearing aids, adaptive shoes.

First to get the results of broadband study, Lewis County sets aside $1 million to get started

LOWVILLE — The study of Lewis County broadband infrastructure and service is now complete and county legislators will begin work on getting the truly high speed internet access in more homes as the need has become more urgent under pandemic conditions.
Local residents answered the call to participate in the broadband survey on a level that impressed consultant ECC Technology. A total of 1,352 people took the survey, about 91% of whom were Lewis County residents.
Twenty-three percent of those respondents reported having no internet access at all, but including households that are underserved by slow satellite and cell phone “hot spot” connections, that jumps to 49% of households in the county that do not have access to internet that meets their needs.
