U.S. Rep. John Larson has represented Connecticut's 1st District since 1999. Two fellow Democrats are planning to challenge him in 2022.
Twenty two years ago, John Larson emerged victorious after a tough primary against a more liberal Democrat to win a seat in Congress representing Connecticut’s 1st District.
Larson has had a clear path to reelection every year since.
But now, two liberal Democrats are planning to challenge Larson in 2022. Both men say he hasn’t done enough to advance a progressive agenda.

When Merrick Garland accepted President Joe Biden’s nomination to serve as attorney general, the federal appeals court judge said he looked forward to a “homecoming” at the Justice Department where he began in the Carter administration.
Any celebration marking his return to "Main Justice" – 24 years after departing for the federal bench – could be short-lived.
Not since Watergate has an attorney general nominee faced the kinds of questions awaiting Garland as he prepares to take his seat Monday for a confirmation hearing before the Senate Judiciary Committee.

Southern IL Lawmakers Face Uncertain Future After Madigan Ouster

By Kelsey Landis | Belleville News-Democrat

Feb 8, 2021
House Speaker Mike Madigan (D-Chicago) speaks with reporters in July 2017. Three former ComEd lobbyists, including a close Madigan confidante, and the former CEO of ComEd's parent company were indicted Wednesday, charged with orchestrating a bribery scheme that allegedly sought to influence Madigan.

To southern Illinois Democratic lawmakers, Speaker Michael Madigan was the omnipresent benefactor — the force behind nearly every successful piece of legislation or election.
To downstate Republicans, he embodied the worst of Chicago politics. He was the ruthless architect of the pension crisis, higher taxes and redistricting that pushed conservatives to the margins. He left the speakership as “Public Official A,” the unnamed figure in the federal corruption investigation that led to his downfall in January.

Progressives target Manchin, Sinema with new PAC

Saikat Chakrabarti, Corbin Trent and Zack Exley, all of whom played a role in launching Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez
“In 2018, we helped elect Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez to Congress and launched the Green New Deal. Now we are launching a new campaign to replace conservative Democrats in the Senate who stand in the way of progress. It’s called No Excuses, and we need your help immediately to run ads telling Joe Manchin and Kyrsten Sinema that they will be primaried and replaced in 2024 if they join with Republicans to shrink their own party’s pandemic, climate, and economic plans,” they wrote in an email to supporters.

campaign are now setting their sights on Senate Democrats.
The co-founders of No Excuses PAC — Saikat Chakrabarti, Corbin Trent and Zack Exley — are starting a search for candidates to challenge incumbent Democrats they say are standing in the way of ambitious
action to end the coronavirus pandemic and revive the economy.
West Virginia Sen. Joe Manchin and Arizona Sen. Kyrsten Sinema — who aren’t up for reelection until 2024 — are the first Democrats on their target list, the left-wing strategists shared first with POLITICO. Chakrabarti and Trent are also former aides to Ocasio-Cortez.
Manchin and Sinema’s opposition to eliminating the legislative filibuster — which requires a 60-vote threshold for most legislation — is the main reason No Excuses is putting a call out for possible challengers. Progressives have increasingly pressed Senate Democrats and President Joe Biden to end

In response to the president-elect's criticism of Georgia Congressman John Lewis, at least 18 House Democrats have said they will not attend Donald Trump's inauguration on Jan. 20.
"Inaugurations are celebratory events, a time to welcome the peaceful transition of power and honor the new administration. On January 20th, I will not be celebrating or honoring an incoming president who rode racism, sexism, xenophobia and bigotry to the White House," California Rep. Barbara Lee said in a statement.
