Story updated at 7:40 p.m. Wednesday: TOPEKA Conservative Republicans who see the federal government as out of control split Wednesday and halted the push in Kansas for a convention of states to propose changes to the U.S. Constitution. The state Senate spent nearly three hours during the final days of its annual session to consider a resolution asking Congress to call a convention. Some backers hoped its approval would help settle an obscure legal question vexing them, but senators thwarted their plans by voting 21-19 to send the resolution back to committee. ....

San Antonio-based Execupay acquires Paydayz FacebookTwitterEmail The pandemic hasn’t gotten in the way of a San Antonio payroll company’s growth plans. Execupay, an 80-person firm headquartered at 10500 Heritage Blvd., said it’s bought Olathe, Kansas-based Paydayz Payroll in its second such acquisition this year. In February, the company purchased Fox Payroll of Foxboro, Mass. Execupay did not disclose how much it paid for either company. The Paydayz deal didn’t include employees, but it did add the firm’s 110 payroll customers across six states to Execupay’s pool of 75,000 clients nationwide. The Paydayz Payroll employees shifted to the firm’s staffing division, according to Scott Abramson, Execupay’s vice president of sales and marketing. ....
