With a one-state reality deepening in Israel-Palestine, the lobby group is shifting away from the model it has championed for years. Now it is turning to a new solution: confederation.
When J Street was founded in 2007, it aimed to be a home for America’s “pro-Israel, pro-peace” community by dedicating itself to advancing a two-state solution while also denouncing the Israeli occupation and settlement expansion. Fourteen years later, the lobby group has established itself as a major institution in Washington, influencing lawmakers on Capitol Hill and attracting powerful keynote speakers to its annual conference. Yet as Israel’s policies of occupation and annexation deepen, the goal of partitioning the land and establishing a Palestinian state is nowhere in sight. ....

Jordan-Israel normalization scheme backfires badly

A video showing Israeli and Jordanian women embracing and meeting caused an uproar among Jordanians late last month.
It was posted on Israel’s official Arabic-language Facebook page, highlighting an Israeli government-backed initiative called Bless Your Hands.
The initiative purports to “support the socioeconomic and environmental well-being of the communities of Israeli and Jordanian women” in Wadi Araba, an area south of the Dead Sea along the border between Israel and Jordan.
Under the banner of promoting textile handicrafts and business development, the project brings together Israeli and Jordanian women for “meetings and seminars in both Israel and Jordan.”
It involves the Jordanian women collecting and processing wool from local sheep and exporting it to the Israeli women, who then make it into decorative textiles that are priced as high as $1,100 apiece. ....
