Pandemic leaves Spotsylvania senior lonely, but not depressed


Up until March 7, 2020, Sarah Johnson was spending three days per week at the Stafford County Senior Café operated by Healthy Generations Agency on Aging.
On Wednesdays, she and a close-knit group of about 30 other senior citizens went shopping. On Mondays and Fridays, they played Bingo, or went bowling, or saw a movie, or did arts and crafts or listened to guest speakers or went on field trips—to the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts in Richmond, to see “Annie” at Riverside Dinner Theater.
“[The café] was the best thing that happened to me since I got here—besides my daughter and son-in-law,” said Johnson, 75, who moved to the Fredericksburg area from Alabama in 2017. ....

Local acquisition brings Baltimore architecture firm to Richmond market

A local architecture firm has joined up with a larger peer, bringing a new name to Richmond’s design scene.
Chesterfield-based KOP Architects was acquired this month by Marshall Craft Associates, a 35-year-old firm headquartered in Baltimore.
The deal was signed Feb. 17 and took effect Feb. 28. Terms were not disclosed.
The combination brings MCA’s staff count to about 40, with KOP principals Ed Gillikin and Don Guthrie joining MCA’s leadership as principals and stockholders. KOP founder Hal Downing, who started the firm in 1992, continues to work part-time as part of the local office’s four-per ....

.-David Richard Gallery is presenting a selection of smaller scaled studies created by Robert Swain to confirm the colors and their corresponding interactions prior to producing the much larger paintings. These are detailed studies for paintings from several different iconic series created by the artist from 1987 through 2020. They are prepared the same way as the larger paintings, with the same care and precision on the same supports (except for some earlier studies on Masonite panels) and the same paint as the larger counterparts. ....
