Starting this June, as their thighs stick to the fiberglass seats at Walker Stadium in Lents, Portland Pickles fans can now chomp down on—you guessed it—a pickle. Not just any old brined cucumber, but the Great West League collegiate baseball team’s first official pickle.

Memories of Mayberry festival returns


Valley Head welcomes back its fourth annual Memories of Mayberry Festival on Saturday, May 1 at the Valley Head Town Square.
Festivities start at 9 a.m. and admission is free. The event will feature entertainment for the whole family including arts and crafts, various food vendors, pony rides, children’s train rides, balloon artist, slide and a bouncy house.
The festival has grown to be the Valley Head Volunteer Fire Department’s biggest fundraiser.
Since 2017, the town has welcomed festival-goers to an evening of nostalgia transporting attendees to the era of The Andy Griffith Show, complete with impersonations of the show’s iconic characters Barney Fife, Floy Lawson the barber and Otis Campbell the town drunk.

We can all agree that we’re glad to close the books on 2020.
It was a devastating year for restaurants in Birmingham, many of which closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic and all of which had to adapt to the “new” normal of curbside service and restricted seating.
But 2021 is finally here, and soon, we hope and pray, we can return to the “old” normal and enjoy going out to lunch or dinner with our friends without worrying about wearing a mask or having our temperature checked.
