British comedian Bill Bailey, who is well versed in life downunder, showed off his New Zealand knowledge with a warm "kia ora, haere mai" welcome to the sold out crowd at Toitoi Hawke's Bay Arts & Events Centre.
Recently let free from managed isolation at Auckland Airport's Holiday Inn, Bailey was eager to share tales of UK lockdowns, nature and music at his first of two 'En Route to Normal' shows in the region.

Her photography books of little ones in pea pods and flower beds sold millions. Then came Instagram.
Photographer Anne Geddes has had a long and prolific career, but she is perhaps best known for Down
in the Garden, a 1996 coffee-table book featuring tiny babies adorably (or tweely, depending on your perspective) tucked into unlikely horticultural scenarios, as if they're hiding by chance in someone's flower bed.
Perhaps you've seen these images online, or on a mug or greeting card or calendar: the sleeping newborns snuggling into tiny pea pods, as if they are so many peas themselves; the babies wearing mouse outfits and dozing in old boots; the babies-as-butterflies, hedgehogs, cabbages, gnomes, worms, bumblebees, flowers.

Tech Giants Cooperate While Competing, Frenemies for Life

By Bowdeya Tweh and Katherine Riley
Once upon a time, Amazon.com Inc. only sold books, Apple Inc. sold computers, and Google was just a search engine. Those days are long gone, and each of those companies -- as well as Microsoft Corp. and Facebook Inc. -- has become a tech behemoth.
Big Tech's critics say the industry's giants wield too much power over the lives of internet users. The companies often argue in response that they face enormous competition, often from each other, and need to continue innovating to remain relevant.
The reality, as these charts show, is an interplay of collaboration and competition that helps to shape the extent and nature of Big Tech's clout. And that interplay is evolving, as the companies increasingly encroach on one another's turf to build and protect their dynasties.

13 hot tech companies sold offshore: Did NZ benefit?

13 hot tech companies sold offshore: Did NZ benefit?

This month has seen two substantial technology companies sold offshore, with Auckland-based retail software firm Vend going to NYSE-listed Lightspeed for $450 million, and Christchurch geologic 3D modelling outfit Seequent acquired
by Nasdaq-listed Bentley Systems for $1.45b.
Backers were quick to claim that jobs would stay in New Zealand (Vend and Seequent employ some 400 locally between them) and that investors like Movac and Punakaiki Fund (Vend) and Pencarrow (Seequent) would recycle money back into the local tech ecosystem.
A look back at 13 past high-profile tech sales (from a field of many more) reveals that sometimes that happens … and sometimes it doesn't.
