Photo by Alika Jenner/Getty Images I told you not to watch today, in my Game Thread preview. If you did, it’s your own fault. The Oakland A’s lost by one run again, this time 4-3 to the Seattle Mariners at T-Mobile Park on Sunday. Another close game, another round of more stuff going wrong than right, and another chapter in an oddly exasperating season that still has the A’s in playoff position — for now. Oakland has played 19 games in July, and 11 have been decided by one run. They are 3-8 in those games. They were 12-10 in such contests entering this month.
It’s time for the NBA Finals: Bucks vs Suns, Game 6 Share this story Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY Sports Welcome to the Game Thread. Veterans of the Game Thread know how we do things around here, but for all you newbies we have a few rules. Our apply and basically say be cool, no personal attacks, don’t troll and don’t swear too much. The Bucks got their usual great game from Giannis Antetokounmpo, but also got another great offensive performance from Khris Middleton, and a fantastic defensive banger from Jrue Holiday, who made the critical steal in the last minutes that cemented Milwaukee’s improbably road win in game five. Devin Booker scored a lot of points in game 5, but his late turnover was costly, similar to how Chris Paul’s mistake late in game 4 ended the Suns chances to steal a win. The Suns are going to have to continue to score a lot of points, but avoid the late-game costly turnovers to secure a win in Milwaukee tonight. If they don’t, the Bucks will be celebrating a title tonight. They’re hoping to extend the series another game on Thursday night, with a winner take all game 7. Either way, this has been one of the hardest fought and closest series in years, and a joy to watch.

Cubs and double plays hit into/runners on base By JohnW53 on Jul 19, 2021, 2:38pm CDT 1 71st time that the Cubs had done so this season, sixth most among all teams and fourth most in the National League. Wildcat6 responded: Wonder if there’s a stat DPs/Baserunners?" I replied: And so have. .......... Through Sunday's games, the Cubs' ranking among teams when it comes to hitting into double plays had not changed. The Yankees had hit into 89 and the Astros, 88. The Padres, with 80, led the NL by 1 over the Nationals and Reds, each with 79. Then came the Cubs, still with 71, followed by the Giants and Rangers (both 69), Blue Jays and White Sox (both 68) and Angels (67).

It’s time for the NBA Finals: Bucks vs Suns, Game 5 Share this story Jeff Hanisch-USA TODAY Sports Welcome to the Game Thread. Veterans of the Game Thread know how we do things around here, but for all you newbies we have a few rules. Our apply and basically say be cool, no personal attacks, don’t troll and don’t swear too much. With two small market teams in the finals, this was supposed to be a down year for the NBA, but instead, it has turned into one of the most exciting and competitive finals in years. Two new superstars have emerged, well that’s not quite true, Giannis Antetounmkpo and Devin Booker were already superstars, but their performances in this series has elevated them to all-time status. The home team has won every game so far, and if Phoenix continues the trend, Milwaukee will return to Milwaukee on the brink of elimination on Tuesday. But if they can maintain their momentum of the last two games, they could win a title at home then. This is the most consequential game of the season, until the next one, and it’s going to be fun to watch. Chris Paul is going to need to find his mojo if the Suns are to win tonight, and if Khris Middleton and Jrue Holiday can play well on the road, the Bucks could turn the series in their favor. Let’s all watch and find out.

Our apply and basically say be cool, no personal attacks, don’t troll and don’t swear too much. I’ve been thinking about who’s going to be the MVP in this year’s finals. Of course, it’s only two games in, and quite a few players could make an impact in the next 2-5 games, so any call would be premature at this point. I think the clear conventional choice so far would have to be Chris Paul, who has led his team to two easy wins by controlling the offense and making timely shots to turn back any Bucks challenges. He has been amazing so far. But I can’t help but admire Giannis Antetokounmpo’s incredible individual play for the Bucks. The really been let down by the mediocre play of Khris Middleton and a couple of downright bad games from Jrue Holiday. Despite his teammates not carrying their weight, Giannis singlehandedly kept Milwaukee in the game until CP3 put it away with a late surge. It’s been a long time since a player on the losing team has won MVP, but strangely enough, I could see the Bucks getting swept and Antetokounmpo taking home the MVP trophy. He’s been that amazing. What do you think?
