Hey ONTD! It's NAIDOC week over here so lets celebrate with some excellent Indigenous Australian and Torres Straight music!
Firstly, what's NAIDOC week you ask? Well NAIDOC week in its current form was established back in the early 1970s but can be tied back to the protest movement known as the Day of Mourning in 1938. While the Day of Mourning was a protest on the way white Australia had treated and seized the land of the original custodians, NAIDOC (National Aboriginal and Islander Day Observance Committee) is a celebration of history, culture and achievements of Indigenous Australians and Torres Straight Islanders, the longest living continuous culture in the world.

Acting Inspector Lisa Damman was inducted into the Queensland Police Service (QPS) more than 17 years ago. It was early in her career that she crossed paths with a remarkable and strong Aunty who, through sharing stories of overcoming trauma as part of the stolen generation, ignited her own passion for First Nations advocacy.

“Prior to Aunty’s passing I made a promise to her that I would never forget that she welcomed me into her life and trusted me enough to listen to her stories. It was this promise that has helped mould my career to what it has become today, and the reason I am so passionate about working with our First Nations peoples in these communities,” Acting Inspector Damman said.

CQ among highest heart attack hotspots in Qld

The Central Queensland region is among Queensland’s highest heart attack hotspots, ranking third in the state.
Australian Heart Maps data shows the rate of heart attack hospitalisations in Central Queensland (22.6 out of every 10,000 people) is 30 per cent above the state average.
The Central Queensland region includes Gladstone, Rockhampton, Livingstone, Central Highlands, Banana and Woorabinda.
Not-for-profit organisation The Heart Foundation released the alarming figures as it called on the Queensland Government to put $1.8 million in next month’s state budget towards widening access to the lifesaving service.
The foundation claimed preventing these heart attacks would provide a whopping $230 million in economic and social benefits to the Sunshine State.
