WASHINGTON Over a dozen Democratic senators on Friday urged U.S. President Joe Biden to withhold financial assistance to Brazil unless it demonstrates it is reducing deforestation in the Amazon and cracking down on environmental crimes.
The letter, signed by 15 senators led by Vermont Senator Patrick Leahy and New Jersey Senator Robert Menendez, was sent days before Biden hosts a virtual climate leaders summit on April 22-23, which Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro is due to attend. It also comes as U.S. climate envoy John Kerry engages with Brazil to secure climate commitments. ....

BISMARCK, N.D. (KFYR) - Former President Donald Trump’s second impeachment trial began on Feb. 9. The Senate voted 56 to 44 that it is constitutional to continue the impeachment process with six Republicans joining 50 Democrats in support.
North Dakota’s two senators, Sen. John Hoeven, R-N.D., and Sen. Kevin Cramer, R-N.D., voted against it.
Trump is the first president to be impeached twice and the first president to have an impeachment trial after he’s left office. Whether it’s constitutional for him to be impeached while not in office was under question on the first day of impeachment hearings. ....

The second impeachment trial of former President Donald Trump is bringing back college memories for Angi Stalnaker and a lesson she learned from a beloved political science professor at the University of Alabama.
She recalled her professor, Bill Stewart, writing down the names of the Republican and Democratic senators who, prior to the 1999 impeachment trial of President Bill Clinton, indicated how they would vote before the trial started.
