Mary Kay Dieterich, the daughter of the late Eugene Forti, a WW2 veteran who died at the Ambrosio Guillen Texas State Veterans home in El Paso, believes her dad got horrible care once COVID-19 hit, and faults Land Commissioner George P. Bush for claiming he was going to shake up the contracted management of the home after her fathers death but failed to do so.
About this story: The Texas Tribune and Houston Chronicle spent months investigating how Texas cared for veterans and their spouses during the coronavirus pandemic at the nine state-run veterans homes. Reporters reviewed hundreds of pages of inspection reports and internal emails, and interviewed more than a dozen experts, resident advocates and families.

Texas Rep. Ron Wright, a 67-year-old Republican from Arlington, died Sunday from COVID-19, according to a statement from his congressional office. He is the first sitting member of Congress to die of the virus.
Wright and his wife, Susan, had been admitted to Baylor Hospital in Dallas two weeks ago after testing positive.
“Today I am deeply saddened by the loss of a good man and one of my closest friends in Congress, Ron Wright,” U.S. Rep. Chip Roy, an Austin Republican, said on Monday.

SAN ANTONIO – The 2021 Martin Luther King, Jr. March will look vastly different this year.
Instead of thousands of people marching in the streets for justice, peace, hope and understanding on Monday, the coronavirus pandemic will force marchers, demonstrators, activists and students to celebrate the life of Dr. King online.
It’s an unprecedented virtual event during an unprecedented age, a time when Americans have faced a global health crisis amid a reckoning of racial injustice.
The remembrance will also take place nearly two weeks after a makeshift noose was erected outside the U.S. Capitol during the deadly siege, in which a man carrying a Confederate flag walked the halls of Congress.
