Stimulus Checks With President Trump's Name Sent Out To Americans
WASHINGTON, DC - APRIL 29: U.S. President Donald Trump's name appears on the coronavirus economic assistance checks that were sent to citizens across the country April 29, 2020 in Washington, DC. The initial 88 million payments totaling nearly $158 billion were sent by the Treasury Department last week as most of the country remains under stay-at-home orders due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
A top White House official said Tuesday that Congress would have to determine whether to send a fourth stimulus check to Americans this year. Over the weekend, a Change.org petition calling for $2,000 monthly checks received over two million signatures. The petition has already been added to the top ten petitions on the website.

Bloomberg: How Much Should Investors Be Worrying About China?

China: The Sum of All Fears
One thing hasn’t changed since Donald Trump’s departure from the White House. China remains high on the agenda in the U.S., and in almost every sphere conflict seems inevitable. The top three China stories on the Bloomberg.com website at the time of writing were: Momentum Grows in Congress for Legislation Confronting China, ‘Diplomatic Boycott’ of Beijing Olympics Added to China Bill, and Australia Cancels China’s Belt and Road Deal With State. A similar snapshot at more or less any other time in the last few months would have yielded a similar picture.

Economics in Brief: Momentum Grows for a Minimum Wage Increase

While federal policymakers are debating the first federal minimum wage increase in more than a decade, consumer giant Costco with its 180,000 employees announced it will raise its internal minimum wage to $16 an hour. That’s one dollar more than the $15 an hour that workers and labor groups have been demanding for years as a federal minimum wage.
Costco had already raised its starting hourly wage to $14 in 2018 and $15 in 2019. The company says 20 percent of its employees currently earn its minimum wage, according to CNN.
Meanwhile in Washington, D.C., the Biden-Harris administration has been pushing to boost the federal minimum wage to $15 an hour as part of the next COVID-19 relief and recovery package. Some Democratic representatives in Congress are weighing a $12 minimum hourly wage as a compromise. On the other side of the aisle, Republican Senator John Thune of South Dakota opposes a $15 minimum hourly wage, saying he earned $6 an hour as a kid — which would be $23 an hour in today’s dollars, accounting for inflation.

A study from Oregon State University College of Business suggests the best way to eliminate gender bias is to remove humans partially from the hiring process.
Gender bias in hiring and promoting workers has been well-documented. While the moral case against gender discrimination in business is strong, a recent study from Oregon State University found gender discrimination is also costly and difficult for even well-intentioned companies to guard against.
The study analyzed gender discrimination data, which was gathered by sending identical resumes to open job listings. The only distinction was the name, which alternated between male and female. The data was used to run thousands of hiring simulations and produce different employment outcomes.
