A city man who allegedly took $24,000 from Harrah’s Casino and Racetrack in November has been held for trial on all counts following a preliminary hearing before Magisterial District Judge Dawn Vann Tuesday. Markile Washington, 27, of the 100 block of Mowry Street, is charged with theft by unlawful taking and receiving stolen property for the Nov. 30 robbery. The theft occurred about 11:42 p.m. as a casino employee was counting money, according to an incident report. The woman told police that Washington had approached and asked to use the phone. She gave him the phone and then turned her back and continued to count, according to the report. She said she believed the money drawer was closed, but it was left slightly open, allowing Washington to allegedly reach in and grab stacks of $ ....

Opinion | In My Hometown, Opioids Are Still Stealing Lives

April 14, 2021

HATBORO, Pa. I’d almost lost my capacity to be shocked by drug overdose. At 28, I’m of Generation Opioid. During high school, prescription pills were as easy to abuse as a learner’s permit. Our reunions take place coffin-side and often.
But shock is what I felt when I got the call, three days before Thanksgiving, that David was dead. He was found slumped against a tree in the neighborhood where we grew up, where both of our mothers live still. Technically, David was my earliest friend. We called each other cousins because our mothers are like sisters I refer to his as my Aunt Tammy. Like many people in this suburb just north of Philadelphia, he became saddled with addiction when we were teenagers, then spent his short adulthood fighting it. ....

Montgomery County D.A. sets April 24 as Drug Take Back Day

NORRISTOWN — Using the slogan “Return of the Medi,” Montgomery County authorities are providing county residents the chance to safely rid their households of unwanted prescription and over-the-counter medications at an upcoming event to help combat the opioid epidemic and drug overdoses.
The Drug Take Back Day, organized by the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office and the Police Chiefs Association of Montgomery County, will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, April 24 at participating police departments and five grocery stores.
“A key way to make your home safer is to get rid of unwanted medications,” District Attorney Kevin R. Steele said. “But we don’t want residents to flush the meds or put them out in the trash—both are unsafe ways to dispose of prescription and over-the-counter medications. ....

Where was Jill Biden born? 'Rebellious' FLOTUS once socked neighborhood bully for terrorizing her little sister

Jill s parents had three daughters — Jill, Jan, and Bonny — then twins Kim and Kelly 10 years later. The three older girls shared a bedroom in Hatboro before the family moved to Willow Grove, the Montgomery County town where Jill spent most of her childhood. “I was kind of rebellious,” Jill told the Philadelphia Inquirer last year. “I loved to pull pranks and I would sneak out of school and run-up to the hoagie shop that was on the corner, those kind of things — innocent things.”
