Stalking: James Rafferty, 63, of Valley Falls, was arrested at 5:58 p.m. on May 4 in Pittstown for fourth-degree stalking and first-degree criminal contempt by disobeying a court order of protection.
DWI: Michele Ossias, 48, of Hoosick Falls, was arrested at 1:16 p.m. on May 5 in Pittstown for driving while intoxicated, aggravated driving while intoxicated, 2 counts of aggravated driving while intoxicated with a child passenger, and 2 counts of endangering the welfare of a child. ....

Hoosick Historical Society to unveil marker on Armed Forces Day

HOOSICK FALLS, N.Y. — The Hoosick Township Historical Society will unveil a New York State historic marker recognizing Congressional Medal of Honor recipient Harris S. Hawthorne at this year’s Armed Forces Day celebration.
The ceremony will take place at 12 p.m. on Saturday, May 15 at Liberty Memorial Park in Maple Grove Cemetery on Main Street.
Hawthorne, a Hoosick area resident, was credited with capturing General G.W. Custis Lee, son of Confederate General Robert E. Lee, near the close of the Civil War on April 6, 1865.
The event will also recognize men and women currently serving in all branches of the U.S. Armed Forces. The Historical Society will host active and retired members representing the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, and Coast Guard. A roll call at the ceremony will pay special tribute to the 104 Hoosick  residents who gave their lives in service to the country throughout the town’ ....

A former in-house attorney for Saint-Gobain Performance Plastics, which owns a manufacturing plant in Hoosick Falls that contaminated the village’s water supplies with a toxic chemical, alleges he was fired last year after he pushed leaders of the corporation to fully investigate whether their other U.S. plants may have polluted public water supplies with a manmade polymer.  (TU)
Under new legislation introduced in the state Senate, police officers from other states who resigned or were fired due to misconduct allegations would be barred from working in law enforcement in New York  an expansion of the existing law which bans New York police officers from taking other jobs in the state if fired for misconduct.  (TU) ....

Whalen: 'Vaccination takes away the uncertainty'


ALBANY, N.Y. — Albany County Executive Daniel McCoy and Albany County Department of Health Commissioner Dr. Elizabeth Whalen both addressed the need to expand encouragement efforts to vaccinate people, so that the Capital Region can reach herd immunity and return to a sense of normalcy.
The two noted how vaccinations are starting to plateau and why more outreach is necessary in pushing people in the right direction. To that end, McCoy announced a video challenge on Instagram, imploring people to share their stories on why they became vaccinated against COVID-19 and how vital it is to resuming regular life.
“Despite making more than 1,200 first doses of the Pfizer vaccine available for our Times Union Center POD [Thursday], unfortunately, we were only able to get 319 residents to fill the appointments, including 56 walk-ins. It’s clear we’re hitting a wall, which is why we’re shifting our resources to more community based pop-up clinics, and we†....
