Unforgettable Bakery + Cafe owner shares Haitian, baguette bread recipes


The start of the COVID-19 pandemic brought out the baker in most of us. Especially out of fear of basic household items becoming obsolete. Local eateries like Unforgettable Bakery + Cafe also recreated their menu by introducing the artisan baked goods into their shop for customers to purchase.
Owner Belinda Baptiste was introduced to French bread-making by her colleague French Chef Edouard Waffalaert. She then used her ingenuity to make traditional bread recipes her own by using a healthy twist that omits the use of eggs, milk and butter in the majority of her breads.
Beyond the wooden saloon doors that lead to the quaint kitchen, one can find batches of fresh whipped icing, sautéed onions being prepared for their Belinda crab cake sandwich, and massive mixers combining fresh ingredients to create Haitian bread and French baguettes. ....

UCLan Research Produces Documentary About The Last Queen Of Haiti

A researcher from the University of Central Lancashire (UCLan) has released a documentary tracing the exile journey of the first and last Queen of Haiti.
Dr Nicole Willson has produced a film, in collaboration with the Haitian Chamber of Commerce in Great Britain, which highlights the locations Marie-Louise Christophe and her two daughters lived in Britain from 1821 to 1824.
The film, which journeys across various sites in the UK, including Blackheath, Hastings and London, uses research unearthed by Dr Willson in 2019.
The Leverhulme Trust Early Career Fellow, based in UCLan’s Institute for Black Atlantic Research, discovered a translation of Marie-Louise’s last will and testament in the UK National Archives. Since this important discovery, she has unearthed a number of interesting facts about the life of the Haitian queen in exile. ....
