IRS to Launch 'Direct File' Pilot Program for Free Online Tax Filing Service in 13 States Next Year

The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) has announced plans to initiate a pilot program called "Direct File" that would allow taxpayers in 13 states to electronically file their taxes with the agency for free during the 2024 tax season.
