Panhandling, homelessness complaints prompt Melbourne City Council special meeting

Melbourne's homeless population continues to rise — even though City Hall officials and a multitude of community partners have never put forth more effort or resources to tackle the problem, City Manager Shannon Lewis notes.
"The number of citizen and business complaints regarding the homeless, homeless camps and panhandling has increased over the past year, particularly after the COVID-19 pandemic began," Lewis said in a memo to the Melbourne City Council.
