his murder and that is well about 11:00. the types change chased the victim and -- the teens chased him and beat him with a shovel. as he lay dieing, they robbed him. >> reporter: police say it started with a call saturday night about people drinking. being disorderly and chasing each other with the shovel on the 5200 block of newton street in bladensburg. when they arrived, the found the 54-year-old dead on the side of the road and that he was brutally beaten with a shovel. that is not all. >> and after they beat the victim, we had one of the suspects going through the victim's pockets. >> reporter: it's not known what was taken from the victim. the 16-year-old andrea and 17- year-old james murray are charged with the murder and both lived within blocks of the crime scene. >> supposedly they were drinking in the area and attempted to rob the victim and struck him with a shovel several times. >> reporter: police don't know how or if the types knew him but that the crime was especially brutal. >> and this is a heinous crime. these individuals, juveniles, they beat this man and you that they're going to be be charged as an adult. >> reporter: a neighbor said that he was living in this basement condo unit and doing work for the owner. she didn't know much else about him. they admitted their involvement with the crime. now, the young men are facing many years in suspects. and that happened in the 4700 block of columbia pike last wednesday before 9 a.m. one man had a gun and the other had a knife and hill it to an employee's throat and forced her to open and got away with cash and if you know who did this, arlington county police would like to hear from you. funeral services for a teacher who died wednesday when she was caught in a rip current. she was expecting her first child. she taught at the river school in d.c. she and her husband were in the outer banks in north carolina when they fell off of the sand bar and were swept into the water. thirty hours later, they were rescued and jill died at the hospital and had just made a video for the little girl the day before. >> i am six months pregnant and our baby girl is -- three months in november for thanksgiving. and on her birthday and -- [ indiscernible ] not nervous that is exciting. >> and that is heartbreaking. her husband matt survived. the river school set up a scholarship fund in jill's name. the man suspected of that deadly movie massacre in colorado has formally been charged with murder. holmes faces 142 cows total including 24 counts of first- degree murder and 116 charges of attempted murder. james holmes is accused of killing 12 and wound 58 others during the midnight premier of the "dark knight rises." prosecutors could file additional charges and is unclear if they will seek the death penalty. a survivor said that he forgives him. he was shot twice in the foot and twice in the arm and said that the only way he can fully recover is to forgive. >> i forgive you [ romney ] i'm mitt romney and i approve this message. . pepco has filed a mandatory report on how it plans to restore service faster during major power outages. after last month's major storm and outages, the public service commission ordered pepco to submit that report by today and it must address how it will train and drill in major outages, activate and mobilize resources, priorities during major outages and how it will communicate better with crews and customers. another local utility company is asking for a rate increase and this time bg&e customers could feel the pitch. baltimore gas and electric asked regulators to improve the increase and saying it's needed for improvements to comply with reliability and requirements. if approved, it would go up $7 a month and a typical gas bill increases by $5 a month. and first, it was oversized sugary drinks. now, the new york mayor bloomberg is cracking down on the baby formula, part of a public health initiative to promote breast-feeding. the new program will keep the baby formula under lock down in more than two dozen city hospitals and require new moms to sign the formula out like medication. the women won't be denied the formula, but if they ask for it, they will get a luckure on the bene-- lecture on the benefits of breast-feeding. >> a seven-year-old maryland boy with a serious health problem might be feeling better tonight. thanks in part to some help from fox 5. ethan from hagerstown has a genetic syndrome that keeps his muscles from developing. kids with the illness tend to be obese and ethan was never strong enough to ride a bike so they had a special bicycle handmade for him. ten days after getting it, someone stole it. and a maryland man saw our story and recognized the bicycle from a post he saw on craig's list. the bicycle will be returned to ethan tomorrow and we plan to be there to bring you the story. and just ahead tonight on the news edge at 6, a christmas to remember. especially in july. an iraq war veteran celebrating with his family after being deployed the first time around. and you may have not been the only one catching a glimpse of the olympics, some say they spotted what looked like a ufo hovering over the opening ceremony. and look closely there at the top of the screen. the good year blimp said it was hired to record aerial footage of the show and said the blimp was not in the area at the time. that object is not appearing to be a helicopter either. the video has u.f.o. believers buzzing. what do you think? ♪ i've n never felt this way befo, but it's a scary time to be a woman. mitt romney is just so out of touch. [ romney ] i'm mitt romney and i approve this message. . hello from day four of the redskins training camp. a couple of updates, the guard corey lichenstein was not at practice, a minor surgery and they're hopeful he can play in the season opener, on september 9th. and the safety, off and physically unable the perform list and he can't practice today and has to sit out one more day for the tb agreement and, by the way, this is day two for the players. how about a progress report on robert griffin 3? the consensus was that he had a rough first day of camp last thursday. since then, he has until the timing and accuracy. the coaching staff had griffen concentrating on short- and mid- range passing with limited passes during the drills. griffin spoke the first time since last wednesday today. >> and a lot of times it will die on you and early on, we struggled with that and picked it up since then and yesterday, we had a good one on the run and like i said, i try not to be a downer and say oh, my gosh, i have to do that and that is about practice. if you make a bad throw one time -- time, there is a slim chance to none i will make the same bad throw. >> and talk about some practice? and one of the players eager, the 24-year-old second year defensive end jarvis jenkins, clear to return to football activities in april after stuffering a torn acl against the ravens and the third preseason game last year and jenkins missed the entire season last year and he's healthy and is eager. he's jenkins on his goals for the upcoming season. >> and personally me, i expect to give them more of a breather and that defense. and we had a good season last year and can have a better one this year and try to be the number one defense and -- i mean, basically, you are holding up guys and to make to be the you know, i am doing best on the defense. >> and the nationals are unbelievable this season. yesterday, they rallied for their 24th come-from-behind victory and they're 61 and 40 on the year, tied with the reds for the best record in all of baseball and that is flashback to last night and the top of the 9th and that runner on. ties the game 9-9 and gives davie johnson something to cheer and that is not all. top of the 11th and still tied and into the left-field corner and comes in to score and zimmerman is going to the face. the catcher drops the ball and they win 11-10 in 11 innings and they go 6-1 on their road trip. and they're off today. a much needed offday and nationals back in action tomorrow and they at home hosting the phillies and supposed to be straussburg and versus chris lee. should be a good matchup. >> and they're on fire and there is so much fun to watch. thank you very much. now you have the news edge. the news is always on www.myfoxdc.com. keep it here. tmz on tv is up next. see you at 10 and for the news edge at 11.
