“You only grow by coming to the end of something and by beginning something else.” As we come to the end of the Year 2020, we can only hope that its trials and tribulations are leading us to a better place. Because we overdid ourselves in 2020. We packed far too much rancor and woe in one calendar year, leaving behind too much of the world we thought we knew in 2019, a recent history that suddenly seemed to be broken in new, maybe-unfixable ways. If 2020 were personified, I would nominate that it be represented by Cristina Gomez, the 28-year-old unemployed West Palm Beach woman who became an international social media sensation in June by telling Palm Beach County commissioners they were going to jail for requiring masks be worn to stop the community spread of the COVID-19 virus.
