Facebook Share Hoa Nguyen was startled awake earlier this month at 6 a.m. by her dog growling followed by an unexpected knock on her Southeast Portland door. The 37-year-old said that when she answered the door, she discovered a racist two-word note targeting Asians, written in Sharpie, sitting on her doorstep. Nguyen, who is Vietnamese American, said she first tried to plow through her workday March 19 – juggling her duties as a Portland Public Schools staffer focused on curbing chronic absenteeism while also working on her campaign as a candidate for the David Douglas School board.
