were with advising the democratic candidate for governor in texas, would you say, smart move not to be seen with the president? >> i think it's good for him to be in another part of the state. this is a republican state. we have a long serving republican governor who people are getting a little weary of and a very strong democratic candidate who's running a very well-financed, independent campaign. it's not in his interest to be seen with the president in a republican state like texas. even though he's doing very well. bill white is just within a few percentage points of our current governor. >> is the risk, congressman barr, the same for republican candidates, given this sort of throw the bungs out mood out there? >> both parties are going to suffer is to some degree with the anti-incumbency fervor that's out there. i think clearly because the fact that the democrats control both the house and the senate and the white house, they're going to suffer far worse simply because they're identified with the status quo and people are upset
