For us it sets out the UK’s international strategy for this decade and beyond. It follows a clear-eyed analysis of our capabilities, and the opportunities and the threats that we face in the world today and tomorrow. Our conclusion – and my argument today – is this. The UK has a central role to play on the world stage as an independent sovereign state, a leading member of the western alliance, and an energetic and dependable partner in the growing prosperity of the Indo-Pacific region. These features of our foreign policy – our independence, our partnerships, our commitment to the East, are all part of the common mission that is Global Britain in the 2020s. That mission is to be a force for good in the world.
