A recent study of Twitter data found a dramatic increase in the use of the hashtag #chinesevirus, along with anti-Asian rhetoric, in the days after then-President Trump first tweeted it. "Before March 16, the dominant term was COVID-19. And once he used the term 'Chinese virus' in his tweet, the dominant term became 'Chinese virus,'" said Dr. Yulin Hswen, researcher and assistant professor of epidemiology and biostatistics at University of California, San Francisco.
