The Gainesville Sun Remember this experience On Jan. 6, members of Congress learned what it feels like to be a typical K-12 student in the United States. They crouched down between rows of chairs and clutched to others for security. They made phone calls and texts to their families assuring them of their love and safety. All of these actions are routine for us students. Ask any elementary-age kid where they hide during an active shooter drill and it’s an easy answer. Countless times I’ve had to squeeze into a closet with my classmates or squat down to be out of view from a window.
