Believed to be originated from southern China and Taiwan, this species has dispersed to other parts of the world, including the United States. Some of the earliest records of the Formosan subterranean termite in the US were in Oahu (Hawaii) in 1907, Charleston (SC) in 1957, and New Orleans (LA) in 1966. It has now been established in at least 11 states, including Hawaii, Texas, Florida, North Carolina, Georgia, and Mississippi.
