the eyes of their peers. so it's really about figuring out who they are. and i think this platform, these platforms speed that process up in a way that is truly new. >> there's another phenomenon people have written about since the 1960s called the imaginary audience. this is the imaginary audience come to life. >> what is the message for parents watching this? i think two things are really important for parents. first of all, i think we need to talk with their children about their online lives and what social media mrad platformer they're using. if we see them franticly tied to their phones, say hey, what's going on? is something wrong? we need them to talk to us about what they're doing online. that should start really early. the other thing that i believe parents should do is sign up for these services themselves. they need to understand how they work so that they'll know more about the impact on their
