hours, the u.s. president will today lay a wreath to remember all those who died at the hands of osama bin laden. barack obama will meet families of some of the victims of 9/11 as well as emergency teams who responded to the attacks. the remembrance ceremony comes four days after u.s. forces shot bin laden dead in pakistan. he had evaded capture for more than a decade. mr. obama is facing repeated calls to release photographs of the body to prove once and for all that bin laden really is dead but the white house says it won t make them public in the interests of national security. we discussed this internally, keep in mind that we are absolutely certain this was him. we ve done dna sampling and testing and so there is no doubt that we killed osama bin laden. it is important for us to make sure that very graphic photos of somebody who was shot in the head are not floating around as an incitement to additional violence, as a propaganda tool. you know, that s not who we are. however, some images have emerged showing the aftermath of the raid. they depict three men apparently killed at the scene. we do need to give you a strong word of caution. some of these images are extremely graphic and disturbing. tim list ter reports. reporter: the raid on the compound in abbottadad by a team of u.s. navy s.e.a.l.s was swift and bloody. after a firefight, they killed osama bin laden and took custody of his body. reporter: within hours of the operation u.s. officials disclosed three other men had been killed. seen your administration officials saying we believe two were couriers and the third was bin laden s adult son. late wednesday, the first photographs from immediately after the assault were published by reuters and we should warn they re graphic. they were taken by a pakistani security official about an hour after u.s. forces left. one man wearing a t-shirt bears a family resemblance to osama bin laden but no confirmation of his identity. the other two were dressed in pakistani clothing. their identities are not known. but sources have named the courier who lived at the compound as al qaeda veteran sheikh abu ahmed. a kuwaiti citizen of pakistani descent. others show the wreckage of the helicopter the u.s. commanders abandoned. its design is different from known helicopter types, they say. they say the tail assembly is unusual and could indicate some kind of unknown stealth capable. the tail rotor appears to have a cowling possibly designed to reduce noise levels, acoustic stealth. pakistan has already said the helicopters took advantage of blind spots in pakistani radar coverage. reuters says it s confident of the authenticity of all the purchased images. tim lister, cnn, atlanta. the united states wants answers from pakistan about how it failed to spot bin laden s fortified compound. the world s most wanted man was living in a large house close to a military base not far from the pakistani capital. pakistan s ambassador to the u.s. says his government will hold an inquiry. the prime minister on a state visit to france right now says his country is doing all it can to fight terrorism but more help is needed. we are in the middle of war fighting against extremism and terrorism and we have a resolve. we have an ability and we really want to fight terrorism because it is in our own interest, but we lack capacity. u.s. investigators are now trolling through phone, videos and computers that their hit squad removed from bin laden s hi hideout. they are looking for any information they might contain about other terrorists and their operations as well as whether he got any support from inside pakistan. we want to bring in our correspondent nick payton wall. we re hearing the pakistani authorities are trying to do more of an investigation as to who knew what, whether it was in abbottadad or elsewhere. is this being seen as a little too late? reporter: i think to be honest since it began it s clear what they perceived their position to be. we were not shown pictures of bin laden and we would have gotten him had we known he was there. the third floor is where bin laden was shot dead. really the investigation presumably i would say some kind of backstop they re looking at this point to show they re willing to go through a transparency, re-examination of everything they ve done up to this particular point. there is no evidence that there was a support structure. that it was run by the government or bin laden here. here neighbors around here he may have got milk or goats but not known bin laden was living there. it s fairly large compound with higher walls but doesn t span out particularly any more than anything else would do. mow these that? we re looking at the images behind you as well at the compound itself, nick. is this becoming more of a tourist attraction now, more and more people interested and looking to see what was actually going on in there? reporter: well, actually as you get close to it you can walk along the main border and there s an awful lot of media and quite a few locals drawn to this kind of historic building now really. we don t know what the plan for this place really is going to be. i mean, anything could happen. it could be left standing and sold to another pakistani or leveled to the ground and always run the risk of being some kind of monument to bin laden s last days, in fact, even if they level the building there will be this swath of land which carries all those memory, monita. we just heard the pakistani prime minister in france talking about how much more help is needed to fight in the war on terrorism. is there a sense from what you understand from what you know there is a unified sense within the pakistani government that, yes, they re all on the same side? publicly, absolutely. publicly that s what they like. a billion government statements on what the military say. they shared moments of anti-americanism. they more or less read off the same page with the accusation from certain u.s. officials particularly actually the head of the u.s. military admiral mullen in a recent visit to islamabad said there are pockets of the isi, pakistani intelligence, that retain relationships with militant networks. admiral mullen was specific when he said there was a long-standing relationship with a network that killed people in afghanistan. others say it isn t the case but there is a broad perception the isi is 100% united and may be certain rogue elements acting off script, so to speak. nick waton walsh in abbottadad, thank you very much. join us for a special presentation of in the footsteps bin laden. a unique look at what shaped him a path that leads from the neighborhood and the mosque of his youth to his hideouts in afghanistan. that s saturday at 8:00 p.m. in london, 9:00 p.m. in berlin. we want to see what newspapers around the world are saying about this from the uae, the national has the headline, pakistan and the u.s. still need to strengthen ties. the article goes on to say bin laden had found safety in pakistan, wrong, that has since been corrected but washington must realize for regional security and bilateral relations that pakistan is much more than one man s evil creed. in turkey today s zam achlt za the headline, what s in store for u.s. hoi pakistan relationship. it can be an opportunity for increased transparency and while the two priorities diverger in flefrls complimentary and the jerusalem post has this it is plausible to believe if pakistan was a true u.s. ally and had made every effort to help locate him this operation wouldn t have taken only now. read all those full at facebook.c facebook.com facebook.com/w1cnn. there is talk tough for the libyan leadership paying for suspected war crimes. the latest from the u.n. not so no anonymous. did a renegade group of hackers leave sony its calling card? the spokesman said they need money for the basics of normal living, food, medical supply, hospital care. fret pligeitgen is there. we saw the basic supplies so desperately needed, what else do the rebels need at this point? reporter: well, yeah, certainly basically supplies are a big issue, not just misrata but in benghazi also. of course, the economy has totally collapsed. now, one of the things that the rebel government is seeing is that it needs somewhere in a region between 1.5 and $3 billion to continue its operations, otherwise, those might collapse. there was a press conference earlier today in rome actually with hillary clinton there and the italian foreign minister where they were asked about how much money they would pledge and whether this conference in rome would come to any conclusion. it doesn t appear as though that is going to be the case, at least not for billions of dollars they say is needed. what they ll try to go, however, is set in place a mechanism where money can be distributed to the rebels. one of the things that has been talked about a lot is possibly using the frozen assets of moammar gadhafi and police government to give to the rebel, however, the terms of that have to be set and that could be take quite a while. also, of course, it s very difficult at this point in time for the rebels to export any oil and try to make money off that. the conference will certainly address that, as well, but, yeah, the basic necessities are a big issue things like water and food and things like medical supplies, but, of course, also in the long run they ll want to be able to acquire weapon, but, of course it still seems to be quite a ways off before that will be the case and will take the recognition of more countries, france and italy recognize the council as the official government of the state of libya, monita. all of this undoubted will i will lead into more of the icc s case against certain figures in libya. they are launching to arrest certain figures. they have not named whether or not mr. gadhafi is on that list, how is that being played out over there? reporter: well, i mean, of course, the libyan government says that all of this the evidence that was collected by the icc prosecutor that it s all one-sided collected in egypt and collected from the rebel, of course, that they never spoke to the government of libya. the icc says that the libyan government simply did not cooperate but one of the interesting things that the icc prosecutor said yesterday, he feels that it s only a very few individuals here in libya that actually command the fighting and that, therefore, are actually responsible for the crimes against humanity that allegedly were committed by the libyan forces so they do believe the people at the top of the state responsible for that whether or not they re going to ask for an arrest warrant for moammar gadhafi or saif islam gadhafi who many believe is running the country is up in the air. three arrest warrants they re talking about. scenes like that will play into that case, as well, me nita. fred pleitgen in tripoli, thank you. authorities in afghanistan are still scratching their head over how hundreds of taliban prisoners managed to tunnel out last week. most of them are still on the loose after the embarrassing security lapse. cnn nick paton walsh has been on his hands and knees for a closer look at the escape tunnel. reporter: from outside these kandahar prison walls lurk unbreachable until you see inside. there americans and afghans are unearthed just how sophisticated the taliban were when they broke 475 militants out of here. the narrow tum doesn t travel separate but has support beams, a tube to feed in oxygen and the dirt was wheeled out on trolleys, must have been a mammoth operation. inside you get an idea how cramped and difficult it must have been to move through and how long it would have taken for hundreds of people to crawl hundreds of feet out. we go inside and enter where the taliban were held. the political block wondering how did to one notice the months-long operation. we re told not to film any of the americans, afghans or prisoners, the corridors once full of insurgents, the cells all empty. the cell that led to freedom left though as it was, life here had little luxuries and one big one, an escape route. with the concrete on the floor it was two or three inches thick and impossible for someone digging upwards to break through so people inside must have finished off the tunnel. no one wants to talk. no one was on shift. was he here that night? if the general comes, he replies he ll punish me for letting you in for a long time. suddenly the guards decide we must leave. we look to where the tunnel emerged. it is inside this house. the hole in the back of a front room now filled in. once the prisoners emerged from the tunnel into the compound here they faced two choices for how they could leave, one a door in the corner over there and that leads out onto a canal. not very useful for the mini buses they escaped on. the most obvious choice, the front door and this leads right out onto the main road opposite the prison. yes, the house is less than 100 feet from the prison s main gate. but still the taliban had to be stealthy. this is from a heavily armed military base down the road and even in the end the americans didn t notice the huge tunnel below until it found light at its end until it was too late. nick paton walsh, cnn, kandahar. a press conference just came into us from the pakistani foreign secretary. he denied his country s relationship with the u.s. damaged. take a listen to this. i think the notion that pakistan/u.s. relations have nosedived, this is not quite our understanding. pakistan considers its relations with the united states as of high importance and significance. that s the pakistani foreign secretary in a news conference and we just got that into cnn saying the pakistan considers relations with the united states of highest importance. this all comes as a fallout and questions surrounding islamabad and what they knew or didn t know about the whereabouts of osama bin laden. this is world one live from london. if you want to muck in without getting your hands dirty, this man says you can have all the fun of your farm without leaving the computer. we have chicken, pig, heavy horses so lots of opportunity for them to make real decisions on the consequences of the farm. in the champion s league, they set their sights on a shocker but get manhandled but man united. our sports update is next. to de. to those always searching for what s pure and what s real from we who believe we know just how you feel. haagen-dazs. consider this: over 70% of firefighters are local volunteers. these are our neighbors putting their lives on the line. and when they rely on a battery, there are firefighters everywhere who trust duracell. and now you can join with duracell to help. just buy specially-marked packs & duracell will make a battery donation to local volunteers. these days don t we all need someone to trust.?
