>> it's not surprising, they suppress the truth, they decided not to rescue four americans that were in trouble when they knew how deep that trouble was. we have had a continuing series of lies. this is clinton saying she didn't know that her ambassador needed more security. the president going off to las vegas to raise money i instead f trying to help those people that were being attacked, it's kind of embulus parade of lies. i think the dam is breaking here because of the special forces fellow. there is no doubt that we could have made an effort even with the people who were on the ground there. >> general, the assets are in place in position, whether the souther europe or whether it be in northern africa, do you have a read as tohe degree to which you have confidence in with a the official account is that there were not assets in position to deploy to rescue these americans, specifically the four who were killed? >> no, i don have confidence, lou. first of all, let's remember it was 9/11, 11th anniversary of the most horrific taking on the united states. we had assets in the mediterranean. we have a fighter base of f-16s and should have been on airborne alert right off of libya. we gone through actions taken down moammar khadafy. >> we had a c-10 force and spenl operations force in croatia on an exercise. on 9/11, why would you have such a valuable asset in another area on an exercise rather than say at signella or in libya on alert? why were there not more airborne ground alerted forth on that very special day. >> and southern italy, libya is itself. michael, this group, covert force compromised of as adam housley reported some 40 c.i.a. operatives. is it typical they would be able to be dispatched on that quick a notice to speed in time all the way to benghazi? >> in the case of benghazi, in the case of libya, as the general just said, libya was falling apart. the administration wanted to continue the pletense that democracy was coming. certainly as an intelligence officers you are always respectful of what the president or the political people say, but nonetheless you put forces in place just in case it happens when they are wrong. i'm sure that the military both in terms of special forces and the marines and the agency had people rdy to help. you have to remember on the friday before they leaked the story to make sure that petraeus had to resign, he said no one at the c.i.a. refused to help tho peopl who were undee attack which directly leads back to the white house as the people who stopped a mission to save them. >> are you intimate go that petraeus' ll, he was hardly the first general to have an affair -- are you suggesting that that affair was tied to take responsibility or make it abundantly clear where the blame lies? >> i think there is no doubt about it based on the information that came out afterwards. the affair had been examined and found to have no national security implications. obama had to get rid of the secretary of defense because he had been a strong secretary of defense and a c.i.a. director and petraeus also knew from his experience that we're not involved in a law enforcement action against islamists. this is war. he had to get rid of petraeus and had to put somebody in like john brennan to tow the line. >> poop boy aside, do you agree with michael's assessment here? what are your views? >> i think michael said it about right. if general petraeus is brought back, subpoenaed or brought back to testify, he is going to tell the truth. that is very important for the committee to do. it'squally important to get survivors, people who were engaged in the operation to testify which the administration here to for has not happened. many have been shifted so the media couldn't get them right away. i believe we have other problems with the chairman of the joint chiefs of staff and very strong secretary of defense panetta who's answers under oath were not compelling. once the dam starts to break, there will be lot of people coming forward and disssing their views. >> thank you very much. good to have you with us. >> consumer confidence hit a three-year high. stocks hit a record. >>. >> lou: mr. laffer, good to have you with us. things are coming up. roses around here and everybody is talking, they are so dour and concerned. what is going on? [ electricity zaps ] ♪ you requested backup? yes. yes i did. what's in your wallet? >>. amazing to think how much our country has changed in 18 years, if in 1995 you would tell me that we would have a african-american president with middle name hussein, i would have said he must have run against mitt romney. >> lou: comedian conan o'brien. fox chief correspondented henry runs the thing. we like it a lot. there is some truth in every joke. let's facet last year was a dangerous year for republicans. here a an a analysis of election. his findings confirm just that. romney could not turn out republicans and last year overall voter turnout was 58%. 58%! that is rough from everybody. that was down from 62% in 2008, a lot of extra enthusiasm for the president. and 52% back in 2004 when there wasn't a lot of enthusiasm about anything. look at that performance. that is disaster. just ask governor romney. consider this, president obama won last year with historically low percentage of white voters. he achieved only 39%. the president, however, had a little extra support in other places. 71% of the happy vote. and 73% of asians voted for president obama. but the black vote was spectacular. he got 93% of the black vote. talk about a consensus, that is a consensus. according to fray the key to victory was in that black voter turnout. even though they make up 12% of the eligible voters in the country, they turned out 13% of the total votes. black voters turned out at a higher rate than white voters last year. if white and black voters turned out the same rate as they did back in 2004, there was a difference of 4% in the overall turnout, governor romney would have actually won the election. not clear that the democratic party can repeat last year's performance when the nation's first black president isn't on the ballot. one thing is clear. everything the republican party did last year was inadequate. it wasn't enough. a lot of it was just dead wrong. some of those fancy super pacs and big budgets they demonstrated they aren't enough and republican party has a lot of thinking to do. they better find some better thinkers if they are going to be competitive in the next one. >> forget illegal immigration, ann coulter says legal immigration is the real problem and it could mean the end of america.
