came. this is the second drowning in the pacific canal in the past week. the latest one involved an adult mail who was -- adult male who was under the influence of drugs. >> ama: fire crews made quick work of a wildfire in concord this afternoon. flames burned so close to apartment builds they were evacuated. crews were able to get it under control after 3:00: 30. the red cross was called to help residents displayed from their home. >> another fire burned close to homes in brisbane on valley drive. firefighters quickly put out the flames before it could spread. i-580 in livermore is now back open a after a brush fire. the smoke was so thick authorities diverted traffic. here's the land burned on both sides of the freeway. let's heat right to leigh glaser for a look at the weather. >> leigh: the weather has been unseasonably cool but the westerly winds have been very strong. any kind of a spark and those wins have driven those flames across parts of the bay area. we're seeing crow -- low clouds and a mist and drizzle developing. the winds are gusty. in the last hour the gusts started to come down a bit. concord, 23. 21 in oakland. it looks like our weather pattern going to begin to change in the next 24 hours and does include some rain for the bay area. we'll take a look at the forecast coming up. >> ama: soldiers who lost their lives in the line of duty were remembered and honored today in san bruno. we go to the annual memorial day event that draws thousands of people carrying hundreds of thousands of american flags. >> reporter: for this veteran memorial day weekend is a time to get to work, not relax. >> we feel like it needs to be done, especially for my generation, keep it going. it's a thing we do. reporter: he and thousands of others came to the golden gate national cemetery to place flags on soldiers are graves. >> thank you for what you're about to do. >> the senator volunteers to return each year and for a more than 50-year-old tradition. after a brief ceremony reflecting on veterans who have given the ultimate sacrifice since the civil war and decoration day, small armies of people took over the cemetery, known as arlington west, and placed flags at all 113,000 graves. >> it moves me. it moves everyone who comes up here, because memorial day is more than a three-day weekend. it is a time for us to remember every single man and woman who has lost their lives trying to keep us free. >> 3500 scouts helped. saying, it is their honor to be part of this day to honor our fallen heroes. >> this is what i can do. this is what i should do. and what i will do when i can. >> just doing this is -- it's not like it's enough but it's a way of saying thank you. >> in san bruno, abc7 news. >> ama: military personnel were recognized for their service at at&t park today. they have a section set aside for them and their families today and tomorrow. fans also received patriotic prizes and a veteran cheer card. it's part of at&t's love a vet program. a search by nearly 200 people for a man who disappeared after running in bay to breakers has turned up empty. last sunday, 27-year-old beau rasmussen of emeryville told his friends after the race he was going to ocean beach. he hasn't been seen since. friends and family from oregon and washington joined in the search today. >> have no evidence that he ever made it to the beach. out of all of the bay to breakers people there were 80,000 people on the beach that day and no one saw him. >> ama: rasmussen's cell phone, passport, and clothing were found at ocean beach last week. no more formal searches are expected. police in palo alto are searching for a missing at-risk woman take a look. naomi brown left an assisted living facility around 10:45 this morning and hasn't been seen since. she uses a walker with a green bag attached to it. she suffers f1eañ alzheimer's bt will answer to her name. >> vallejo police are getting outside help to deal with violent crime during operation goodwill. the sheriffs departments, chp, and probation department were offering up extra ofs, as many as 15, to saturate areas that have seen frequent shootings, violence, and gang activities. >> the city of oakland has a new bishop. father michael barber was installed as the fifth bishop of oakland. the former fourth bishop of oakland was in attendance, as was a papal representative and other bishops from around the country. leon is now thary. bishop of san francisco. barber is a former navy chap chaplain. >> a huge protest against month santa -- month santa monsanto. proficienters say natural food provides the best nutritional benefits possible. demonstrators want modified food to be labeled.
