game one of the series. laura benke is in philly with reaction. we begin with raj. >> we'll say this as politely as possible, aubrey huff started wearing women's underwear to help rally the team. huff tonight wearing that thong in full display for all of his post game interviews. everything turning up roses for the giants. we won't show you the underwear, but we will show you joe biden. the big star of this game -- the past couple weeks for the giants, cody ross, one of the most unheralded players on the roster smacks two home runs tonight. both off roy halladay, cody ross, top of the sixen inning now, we pick it up with juan uribe, another role player on this team, drives in what turns out to be the game winning run. nate sherholtz -- he leaves a lot of people stunned. >> reporter: they basically acquired him in order to stop the padres from scooping him off the waiver wire in august. but quickly, cody ross is becoming one of the giants most valuable players this postseason. tonight he took roy halladay deep twice. call him mr. october. his teammates do. >> ross got us on the board, he did it again. put a lot of life into it. it's probably one of the best games he's had in his life in a big stage. he really sparked us tonight. >> it's a big win for us tonight, coming in here. taking a person -- it's a good feeling for us. >> so many likeable players on this team. great start, yes, for the giants, be very careful here, this series is far from over. there's a big headache waiting for the team tomorrow night. we'll explain just ahead. >> thanks, raj. >> let's go giants! >> let's go phillies! >> philly fans in the bay area? still to come at 11:00, we'll take a trip to the san francisco bar where the giants are not the home team. but first, police in oakland say a man was shot and seriously wounded while he was at a bank of arica trying to use the atm this morning. the shooting happened around 9:15 at the safeway shopping center at the corner of broadway and pleasant valley. a 28-year-old man was shot at least twice as he used the atm, it's not clear at this point whether the motive was robbery. police are offering a $5,000 reward for information on if thf gunman. the victim is in critical condition in the hospital. the bay area has considerable pull as a tourist attraction, of course, from culture to beaches and hikes. ask any tourist, and walnut creek probably doesn't make their long list of spots to visit. city leaders want to change that. kimberly terry's in walnut creek with more. >> like most cities in california, walnut creek is trying to come up with additional resources, and city leaders think that tourism could be one them. >> next week the walnut creek city council will discuss the creation of a tourism business improvement district. hoping to get people to come here and stay a while. >> obviously we're not a disneyland or san francisco, but there are people who would come. and will come and do come. >> the move would give the city the power to levee fees on its hotels, ranging from $1.50 to $2 per night. the president of the walnut creek chamber of commerce says the tourism business could stand to raise $275,000 a year, which would then be used for marketing. jay hoyer says hotel and restaurant owners seemed excited about the plant to get people interested in what the city has to offer. >> i know this christmas season, i personally have 20 members of my family coming to visit. while they're here, we can go to san francisco or spend time here in walnut creek. we can attend a performance at the lecture center. there are a lot of things to do in walnut creek. >> a lot of people come here for weddings and tennis, and sees them as untapped resources for revenue. >> we have tennis events here, tennis tournaments. a junior's tournament, we'll have competitors coming from reno, from southern california, from all around to compete in these tournaments, when they do, they and their families come and stay here, that's way form of tourism a lot of people don't think about. >> he's right. >> i didn't know about tennis, is tennis a big draw here? >> i guess so. residents have mixed reactions about walnut creek being seen as a tourist destination. >> any place could be, it's a beautiful city. i don't know if it makes sense. >> the city council is scheduled to take up the issue of tourism at their next meeting on tuesday evening. live in walnut creek, kimberly terry, nbc bay area news. >> thank you, kimberly. john mccain is up for re-election in his home state. he spent this weekend in california trying to build support for republican senate candidate carly fiorina, he spoke at a military veteran's rally this afternoon. mccain told the crowd that fiorina's challenger has tried to undercut the military in iraq and afghanistan. it's no coincidence the focus was on the military because just a couple days ago, senator boxer received the endorsement of the veteran's of foreign wars political action committee. mccain said he was stunned by the endorsement and lashed out at senator boxer. >> barbara boxer is the most bitterly partisan, most anti-defense senator in the united states senate today. i know that, because i've had the unpleasant experience of having to serve with her. >> by the way, fiorina served as an economic adviser to senator mccain during his 2008 presidential campaign. she was pulled from the front line when she told reporters that neither mccain nor sarah palin would be capable of running a company. >> how about we make november 2nd freedom day and we take it back for the little guys? francisco as giants' fans rallied their hometown spirit and phillies fans tried not to lose hope. >> let's go giants! >> let's go phillies! >> by the eighth inning, phillies' fans looked worried. and soon after the celebration belonged to the giants. >> i feel ecstatic, i've been pins and needles all night, but the chicken wings helped me through it, and the beer, and it's all good. >> this pub has become a local hangout for fans of the phillies. it's unclear why, but it started about nine years ago. this is what it looked like here when the phillies won the world series two years ago. but this time, it was a different story. >> we're good fans, we're going to root for the phillies until the end. >> phillies could still win it, keep it going. good game, giants. >> jeff has lived in the be careful right now where they place baby monitors, six babies have died since 2004 after pulling the monitors into their cribs and getting the cord tangled around their necks. savannah perrera was one of those victims. savannah's parents knew the monitor had to be placed out of her reach, but they weren't prepared for the day she learned to pull herself up in her crib. now her parents are warning others. >> she was in her crib, and somehow the accident happened. she reached a milestone in her life, apparently, where she suddenly learned how to stand. and that was the end of her life. >> that's why the federal government is urging parents to keep all video and audio monitors out of children's reach or potential reach. the men rescues from that mine in chile are enjoying their first day, but a nice day, no raindrops, we'll have a couple of them tomorrow, we start off with san francisco. look at all the fog in place, a little chilly, we're going to manage 50s again tomorrow. we'll drop into the 50s for overnight lows. as we look out over oracle, a nice shot of the east side of the bay, as we go into tomorrow, the east side of the bay, plenty of cloud cover here. this is note going to be a big event for us, whatever does fall is going to be very light, live over san jose, where it's sitting in the 50s right now, 58 degrees san jose, within the past hour, 46 in movado, we drop into the 40s for the north end of the bay, 50s tomorrow morning, we're only going to warm up another 15 degrees from there. there's another system right there, it's going to sit off the coast for a couple days. starting tomorrow, it's closer to san francisco, the wraparound moisture from that is going to give us a couple scattered showers, tomorrow morning, the nike women's marathon going on. a couple events going on in the bay area. mist and drizzle closer to the coast. in the afternoon, by 12:00, 1:00, 2:00, you'll see the showers popping up in the bay. into the central valley and plenty of it. in the sierras, we'll see thunderstorms and showers through monday. we'll have a lingering shower or two for monday morning's commute. after that, we'll dry out in a couple days, and then we'll see more cooling by the end of the week. high's tomorrow, 68 in livermore, 65 through napa. notice the numbers dropping a good 10 degrees from today's high. you only get about 64 in san jose, sunset at 69. the remainder of the week ahead, 7-day forecast. whatever falls, it's into the going to be very heavy, and then we'll clear out for tuesday with the giants. >> can't wait. thank you. >> raj is the 5th, giants had a two-one lead. it ain't going to be easy against the phillies. bottom of the sixth, jayson werth. a two-run homer off tim lincecum, the phillies were trailing. what do you do? you bring in the beard, brian wilson strikes out the final four batters of the game. giants win it 4-3. huge for two reasons here, they take an early lead in the series, and maybe more importantly, the giants have convinced themselves they can beat the heavily favored phils, let's bring in laura bank canhe >> reporter: once the media was allowed in, the excitement tempered a bit, where the company line became it's a good start, but it's just one win, what a win it was. the giants beating roy halladay on a night when tim lincecum didn't have his best stuff. >> you try not to worry about what
