and the financial -- this is the "new york times" reporting by the way, the financial moves that were made according to the documents of the "times" reviewed. bring us back to that moment. what does it bring up, to you? >> well, katy, the $21 million came in through phil ruffin who's a las vegas casino owner and longtime friend of donald trump. you know him of course from the campaign trail. he was hosting candidate trump several times in that 2015-2016 period. and it's unclear sort of exactly why that money flowed into trump's coffers. but it raised huge red flags. because trump did not have a lot of liquid assets when he was running. he was, of course, largely self-funding his 2016 campaign. and he left an impression with voters that he had billions of dollars in the bank and would just sort of go to the atm every time he needed more money for
