The constant handling of mobile phones (MPs) by users in hospitals (patients, visitors, and healthcare workers, etc.) makes it a suitable place for transmission of multidrug-resistant bacteria (MDR), as well as healthcare-associated infections. Mobile phones are widely used in healthcare facilities, even reaching operating rooms. It has been shown that mobile phones may serve as reservoir of MDR bacteria like ESBL, MRSA, and VRE and even they serve as a reservoir for viruses like COVID-19 which could easily be transmitted from MPs to the healthcare workers hands, therefore facilitating the transmission from one patient to another in different hospital settings.
