more than 8500 records set or tied. it has been brutal this summer and more than 400 possible records to go for the rest of the week, that is record high temperatures as well as record warm minimum temperatures. so that means the overnight temperatures aren't cooling off very much either. so the feels like temperatures this afternoon, chicago 111, 114 in springfield, 114 in st. louis, 93 in minneapolis, 106 in des moines. high temperatures will stay hot for one more day really and then we'll start to see the temperatures come down at least for the northernmost cities. omaha, 100. and then we drop to 92, minneapolis at 90, we start to stair step our way down. wichita, a couple more days temperatures in the triple digits. and then we start to fall. same for st. louis. so above average temperatures, the heat dome will start to break over the plains, upp per midwest. in the south we'll get some

relief. elsewhere the plains, midwest, below average temperatures actually moving in across portions of the east. so feels like temperatures across the south 113 in shreveport, 112 in houston, 116 in baton rouge. 110 in there is. so high temperatures the next couple of days will stay incredibly hot across the south. 102 in new orleans, 100 in memphis, 106 thursday in dallas. and then you have to factor in that heat index. so temperatures feeling very, very shot across the board. here is the new orleans 7 day forecast. and look at that, temperatures really flirting with those triple digits the next four or five days and trying to fall a little closer to average by the end of the seven day period. messi mania is taking miami by storm. still ahead, how lionel messi is helping bring more joy to soccer fans.

temperatures across the midwest, chicago hitting 100 degrees possibly on thursday. minneapolis hitting 99 today. green bay even at 96. and when you factor in the heat index, feels like temperature, 112 in chicago, 106 in minneapolis, feeling like 115 in little rock. so a dangerous heat across the board. more than 400 potential records broken, that is for maximum high temperatures as well as warm minimum temperatures. so the overnight temperatures are not going to cool off much. we have above average temperatures, finally starting to back off by the time we get to the weekend, still in place though across the deep south and it looks like the heat will be working its way into the pacific northwest and the northern plains as well as we look into the outlook the next week or so, we do have above average temperatures across the south and west, below average temperatures for much of the east. one arizona county is asking people they're grand canyon

upper midwest as we go throughout the afternoon. heat advisories, excessive heat warnings in effect for this entire area. look at the highs today, 104 in dallas, 101 oklahoma city, even minneapolis hitting the triple digits. high temperatures over the next couple of days in dallas will hit 107 on thursday. houston will hit 106 on thursday as well. a good 10 degrees above normal. even little rock and oklahoma city staying in the triple digits for the next three days or so. as we travel to the north, midwest, look at minneapolis, 101 tuesday. we'll drop about 10 degrees though by the time we get into thursday. green bay peaks on wednesday at 96 degrees. and even chicago hitting 99 degrees. so today's heat index will feel like 110 in dallas, feeling like 113 in little rock, even feeling like 114 in minneapolis. that is a hot afternoon. more than 400 potential records will be broken.
