Fort Drum, January 18: Vice President Mike Pence and his wife made their final official appearance together Sunday with a visit to Fort Drum, where they thanked the 10th Mountain Division and their families for their service.
“I'm here to deliver a very simple message to each and every one of you on behalf of your commander and chief, and every American," Pence said. "Thank you for your service. And to the 1st Brigade combat team, welcome home.” The 1st Brigade recently returned from Afghanistan.
Karen Pence, speaking before her husband took the podium, became emotional and briefly faltered as she addressed the troops. “It is such an honour to be with you — here I go — for our very last trip as vice president and second lady of the United States,” she said.

bin laden and when we got them, when we got him, and as we keep on driving to get the rest of them, it is because of the work and the sacrifice that you guys have made. now, the 10th mountain and the 1st brigade, you guys have sacrificed mightily. i know that you have got 111 fallen soldiers just out of this group -- 11 fallen soldiers out of this group right here and 207 all totaled since 9/11. we will never forget their sacrifice. and the reason that i know many of you continue to do the outstanding work that you do is not only love of country, but love of each çother, and your commitment to making sure that those sacrifices were not in vein. so the main message for all of you here today is that the
