pediatrics now urging parents to prioritize water safety this summer. abc's zohreen shah in los angeles county. >> reporter: tonight, a recent string of drowning sparking an urgent warning for parents. two boys drowning in new york city friday in an area known for dangerous currents. just days earlier, two teenage brothers drowning in a pool in bayonne, new jersey. >> to lose one son would be a horrific tragedy, but two at the same time and, you know, no explanation? it's just -- it's sad. >> reporter: and in colorado, 13 people have drowned so far this year. the state on pace to set a new horrific record. and it comes amid a new warning from the nation's top pediatricians, urging parents to provide swimming lessons for their children as more parks and pools re-open from pandemic shutdowns. >> all parents out there should learn cpr. because it can absolutely save a life. in the event of a drowning, every single second counts. >> reporter: karen cone making
