Manhattan: In his article “Why I welcome asylum seekers to our country” (op-ed, Oct. 6) New York state Sen. James Sanders Jr. fails to address where the money to pay for their housing, health, food, clothing and education will come from except for vague reference to “city, state and federal governments.”

Manhattan: Regarding “Highest rents ever” (June 10), let’s add this: The New York State Division of Housing and Community Renewal (DHCR) has the job of upholding rent regulation laws, but they fail miserably to do so. NYC has lost tens of thousands of rent-controlled and rent-regulated apartments in recent years as landlords illegally make them market-rate.
Brooklyn: Re “Adams boosts job training for foster children” (March 30): A vocational training program for young people who exit foster care is crucial for their success. Equally important is ensuring that New York’s youth who age out of care at 21 have access to our organization, Fair Futures, a model that provides holistic one-to-one coaching, tutoring and other supports to help young people in foster care successfully move into adulthood.
Bronx: Marijuana is at worst psychologically, but not physically, addictive. Alcohol is physically addictive for some people. Marijuana has medical benefits. Alcohol is medically harmful. But Errol Louis claims that marijuana is a “powerfully addictive substance” in his April 8 column.
