Share AUGUSTA — After four decades of service to United Way of Kennebec Valley, Director of Finance Wendy Beaudoin has announced her plans to retire from the organization in March. UWKV has hired Kelly Wasson as the organization’s incoming director of finance, effective Feb. 1. Wendy Beaudoin Contributed photo Beaudoin joined United Way in 1981 as a administrative assistant, and her position has evolved with the nonprofit’s needs. Over the course of her career, she helped United Way grow from a two-person operation raising $298,000 to four-person staff raising $1.66 million and serving 57,534 people in 2020, the highest amount in the organization’s 65-year history.

Share United Way of Kennebec Valley recently announced that it helped 57,534 people and raised $1,665,005 in the 2020 campaign. This growth represents a 3% increase in donations from 2019 and the most funds ever raised in support of UWKV’s 50 partner programs. Campaign co-chairman and -woman Chris and Sarah Voynik shared this news at UWKV’s Campaign Celebration, which attracted 87 people virtually on Jan. 27, according to a news release from Augusta-based United Way. Acknowledging the fact that this has been one of the hardest years the Kennebec Valley has ever faced, the Voyniks asked the community in September to simply give if they had the means to do so — and announced a goal of helping 56,000 people. Together, supporters exceeded that goal through the combined efforts of the annual fundraising campaign and the organization’s COVID-19 Response Fund.

The show opens Friday, January 22, at the Boca Grande Art Alliance from noon to 5 p.m. and continues on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. “We are excited to team up with these very talented artists, Val Chapko and Joe Palmerio,” says Mitchell. “Both of these men are highly regarded in their fields, and it will be a treat to have their works on display and available for purchase at the island’s art center.”
