The Book Show: Max Porter, Joseph O'Connor and banned books!

Max Porter (
The Death of Francis Bacon, Lanny, Grief is the Thing with Feathers) bemoans not being able to hang out in Galway during the upcoming Cúirt International Festival of Literature. He also acknowledges that setting himself the challenge of writing about specific paintings and the final days of Francis Bacon may have also proven to be something of a challenge to some readers, and he yearns for the day he can buy a book he has no use for in a musty second hand bookshop.
Dr Aoife Bhreatnach has set herself her own podcast challenge of sampling some of the banned books of Ireland's recent past in an effort to find out what made them so immoral. She has designed here own bingo card as a reading guide, where she can tick off examples of the filth, the muck and the downright indecent. She has read everything from surprisingly moral pulp fiction to terrifically disappointing feminist erotica. Also, you may be surprised to learnt the title of one book still banned in this country... Dr Bhreatnach’s podcast can be found at censored.ie.
