most in charges. >> reporter: most withdrawn going local nonprofit credit unions, 300 new accounts yesterday, six times the norm. credit unions saw a total 650,000 new accounts by last thursday. and they told us today they think that number will reach one million. it started with the $5 fee bank of america planned to charge for debit card use. this california woman was so mad, she started the online movement to transfer the money out of big banks. >> it seemed unfair a corporation would target people they viewed as weak or complacent. >> customers shredded debit cards and the bank cancelled the fee. >> it's gaining momentum and for bank of america it was too little too late. >> reporter: even a million accounts lost is one-half of one percent of all bank accounts in the country and big banks say they'll find a way to keep profits up. >> every bank needs to do what it needs to do to keep the customer happy and remain solvent.
