Delawaret to school in i went to the university of , delaware. So my history basically was in delaware before i went into the service. Now i tried to enlist in the service the minute we were attacked by japan. But i was colorblind. And i could not get in. But they had what they called the enlisted reserves core. Reserve corps. Which they let College Students go into with the idea that you would serve a basic training and then you would go back to school, and the thinking was maybe this war wasnt going to go too far. So you would go back to school and you would start again wherever you left off. I went to try to enlist, but i was colorblind. Had to go back. Finally i got in the army. But i was restricted in what i could do. I went to texas for basic training. Texas. 16 weeks in they sent me from texas to the university of connecticut to continue my education. Special exhibition that is titled determine, the 400year struggle for black equality. It is part of the statewide commemoration of the 400th anniversary of significant events that happened in virginia. And fundamentally shaped the course of American History. It is called american evolution 2019. And the determined exhibition is a legacy project of that statewide commemoration. And in particular, determined commemorates the 1619 arrival of the africans in virginia. It looks at the ensuing 400 years and traces the legacy of slavery in virginia through emancipation, segregation, the modern Civil Rights Movement up until the present day. D. C. s most successful brewer. He lived between 1842 and 1945, was born in a small town in germany and died here in washington, d. C. , at the age of 102. He was the oldest brewer in the world at that time. Now we are in the basement at the heurich house. We are in the original man cave room. It was built originally to be s beer drinking room. The original time on furniture we still have here in the middle of the room. Because christian was basically 60 years old when he had his children and the dining room was really the only place for the family to have meals, this became the german breakfast room, and this is where the kids would have their breakfast and lunch. More casual dining space, and when the conversion happened, they ordered furniture from christian plus hometown in germany. We have a set of table and chairs, sideboards, a couple of other pieces including a bench. All of them have figures in them that are historic figures from the place where
