NO SPECIAL TREATMENT. The prosecution of Police Senior Master Sgt. Darwin Nolasco for murder will push through with no special treatment, the Police Regional Office in the Caraga Region assures in a statement Wednesday (Jan. 25, 2023). Nolasco is tagged in the killing of a couple on Monday night in Barangay Villa Kananga, Butuan City. (Photo courtesy of BCPO) BUTUAN CITY - No special treatment will be accorded to Police Senior Master Sgt. Darwin Nolasco who was tagged as the primary suspect in the killing of a couple here. This was the assurance Wednesday of Brig. Gen. Pablo Labra II director of the Police Regional Office in the Caraga Region. "Rest assured that no special treatment shall be given to PSMS Nolasco in the course of the investigation and if proven guilty, the full force of the law will be applied upon him to give justice to the lives lost and forever shattered," Labra said in a statement. The Butuan City Police Office (BCPO) said Charlie and Mary Anne Anasco were gunned down by Nolasco on Monday night upon arrival at their house in Barangay Villa Kananga. Initial investigation showed that jealousy and personal grudge are possible motives behind the killing of the couple, said Col. Marco Archinue, the city police director. "We are now preparing charges of multiple murder against PSMS Nolasco as we go through the depths of this investigation," Archinue said, adding that the suspect is now under the custody of the BCPO Police Station 1. Meanwhile, Labra urged the public to stop spreading the closed-circuit television footage of the crime on social media to protect the victims' only child from further emotional trauma. (PNA) }

Each association received PHP300,000 to further develop their respective livelihood projects. (Photo courtesy of DSWD-13) BUTUAN CITY - At least 28 associations located in conflict-affected villages in Surigao del Norte province have received PHP300,000 livelihood grants each, or a total of PHP8.4 million from the Department of Social Welfare and Development in the Caraga Region (DSWD-13). In a statement Wednesday, DSWD-13 said the aid forms part of the implementation of the Payapa at Masaganang Pamayanan (PAMANA) under the Sustainable Livelihood Program (SLP) of the agency. The 28 recipient groups are from the different villages in the towns of Alegria, Claver, Gigaquit, Mainit, Placer, San Francisco and Surigao City. "The livelihood grant is intended to boost the livelihood activities of the associations in the far-flung and conflict-vulnerable areas in Surigao del Norte," DSWD-13 said. Launched in 2011, PAMANA is a peace and development priority program of the national government that provides support to groups and communities affected by conflicts. The DSWD's SLP, meanwhile, is a capability-building package for vulnerable and marginalized communities by providing them with livelihood programs and services to improve their economic lives. The DSWD-13 said it will also provide the necessary technical assistance to the 28 associations to develop their livelihood projects. (PNA) }
